here's my contribution to your blog chx:

from BBC.com:

World football governing body Fifa has given the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) 20 extra days in which to organise elections.

"Fifa has written to us that the present board can stay in office until 19 December," said NFA spokesman Robinson Okosun.

"This extension is to allow for time to plan and conduct a fresh election."

The tenure of the NFA board, led by Ibrahim Galadima and voted in three years ago, expires on Tuesday.

Before Fifa's latest pronouncment, Galadima announced NFA board elections would take place in March, after the end of the African Nations Cup.

Galadima said conducting elections this year would derail plans for Nigeria's preparations for the Nations Cup.

Critics have accused Galadima and board members of planning to remain in office.

Nigeria, which finished third at the 2004 Nations Cup in Tunisia, failed to qualify for the next year's World Cup finals in Germany.

Bastards failed to qualify us for the World Cup and they refuse to resign! Would for the good old days when NFA HQ was in Lagos...

Proof of this can be seen in the Nigerian University housing system where at times as many as 11 guys stay together in a room and they get along fairly peacefully. Anyway, this hanging out with guys stuff works for girls cos in most cases the guys are so daft. They’re ready to follow the girl around all day and even spend big-time on her; not because they like her on platonic terms but because they got hopes of getting a kiss, a hug or hitting it proper one day. Hey…fuck this, over to the next paragraph!

ok good. i thought i was the only one doing that

I stand by what I think- for a boy and a girl to be friends that are proper there must be be some physical antipathy.

id say that this is mostly for the guy. usually there is some dual attraction in order to become friends but its all over when you begin defining each other as friends. getting stuck in the friend boat with a girl you like really sucks.

Once your in the friend boat theres no way of pulling up the anchor.

It applies to both of them- a boy lusting after a girl will break up the friendship just as easily as a girl lusting after a guy, assuming that it is a one way thing.

Why does all of your humour relate back to you getting drunk or drinking? ;)

I just resigned from my job today, have to put in a month's work or pay though, decided to drop the pay.

Reason: I have 2 offers of admission to study a Masters degree both in the United Kingdom, and both beginning in February. May not take them, though as the programme that I am really interested in begins in September and I am yet to be admitted for that...

That brings me to the true reason for my resignation: Ever since I left the Army, I had a very poor opinion about the female sex, and this was reflected in the relationships I had while a university student. At this time 30 months back had one told me I'd build my life around a girl, I'd have laughed in his face, but then I met someone: Uju.

She's in Lagos now, and Abuja has suddenly become so dull for me... Time to move on... Getting a job won't be too much of a problem for me (aside from family links, I am very good at what I do). But Uju wants me to do the MSc (funny how she convinced me to do something my dad failed so woefully at!).

I resigned so I can spend some time with her in Lagos before making the decision as to whether to wait until September or starting with what I already have.

I want to make an appeal here: those who have faith please pray for me! That girl is the light of my life. Had her insistence on completing the academic thingy not come in, we'd have gotten married in January, but she insists on finishing school first (like a BSc isn't school enough), so I guess I have no choice.

My problem is this: I know she loves me, as much as I love her. But, I once watched a close friend of mine lose his girl (who was as crazy about him...). I'd die if that happened to me!

I am afraid to death of what it might do to me!

This means you can't see Madlawyer anymore?

Accoring to The Chinese People's Daily the WTO is telling Nigeria to be less protectionist!

Like they shouldn't tell the US and the EU...

Anyways, for Nigeria, I don't think protectionism is the way to go, totally. We tried it back in the 80s and it cae to bite us in the arse...

I think we should just raise tariffs, not total import bans! :D

Largely the views of Chippla, I added some spice...

The death penalty is one of the most contentious issues in society today. In countries like the United States, it has its die hard supporters among a certain part of the political class. Similarly, there is a part of the political class in America that would want to see the death penalty (which was reinstated by the Supreme Court in 1976) abolished. In much of Western Europe, the death penalty was done away with between twenty and forty years ago. And there are countries which have erased the death penalty from their law books only to reinstate it later, such as the Philippines.

Like much of the world, this fellow followed the (pitiful) story about the hanging of the Australian citizen, Nguyen Tuong Van, in Singapore for the trafficking of heroin. Singapore as some of you may know is a tightly controlled but incredibly affluent society. If you've never been there you only need talk with someone objective who has. It's a place where everything works perfectly, where citizens enjoy about the highest standard of living anywhere in the world. But all this comes at a price. Rules are strictly enforced on crimes which may range from spitting out a bubble gum on the street to trafficking drugs.

Like most Asian countries, Singapore has a strict hard drugs policy. Traffickers face the full wrath of the law. To the Singaporean government, drugs are a menace to society that destroys the lives of people. Thus, an absolute zero tolerance policy, which from all indications has always been enforced, remains enshrined in Singaporean law. The Central Narcotics Bureau of Singapore exists for this purpose. On its website, one would find updates about its activities since 2003 in ridding Singaporean society of drugs and bringing traffickers to justice.

Not everyone thinks that Singapore is as immaculate as it wants the rest of the world to believe. Its burgeoning trade and investments with Burma, a heroin trading center of the world has angered some. This report from the News.com of Australia, challenges the government of Singapore to stop aiding the heroin trade by cutting its links with Burma. There are also those who question the authenticity of Singapore's zero tolerance to drugs. Questions such as "have the top shots been brought to book?" and "why is it that only ordinary folks ever get hanged?" may not be uncommon. None of these seem to have affected the policy of the Singaporean government.

The aim of this write-up is not to open a debate about the death penalty. (I support it anyway). Undoubtedly our opinions on the death penalty or other social issues are to a large extent shaped by our beliefs, ideologies, upbringing and environment. And no matter how much we may try denying this, it tells each time we are given the opportunity to air our views. That is why an average Singaporean may see nothing wrong in having drug traffickers executed. That is also the reason why an Iranian exile may loathe the Mullahs in his/her country. But isn't the modern world about consensus some may ask? Aren't there universal values that touch the hearts of all of humanity? Probably in the world of the future, not the world of today.

In today's world, the State is (unfortunately) all powerful. That is why it can ask its citizens to fight for it against what it perceives to be an enemy or defend it from external aggression. That is also why in some places, it has asked for the right to take away the lives of citizens it deems to be misfits or threats to society. And such misfits may range from murderers to drug traffickers. They could also be those who commit treason, about the most serious offence against the State itself. Yet some may ask "should the State or any other human institution have the right to take the life of a human being no matter the crime?" Defenders of the death penalty may reply "In a democratic society, the State is you and I. We give the lawmakers the right to have death penalty enshrined in our law books."

And though civil rights groups and religious organizations continue to fight against the death penalty, the fact is it will be with us for some time, and especially in certain parts of the world. And as long as there are no universally agreed upon laws that govern human existence on the planet, we would have to abide by the existing laws of the various pieces of lands we have come to call Nations or States.

Don't traffic drugs into any Asian country no matter how dire your situation is – it may likely cost you your life.

Do you hate America (i.e. the United States) or do you simply dislike the current Bush administration? And if you hate America, why? Do you hate America because she is the most powerful nation in the world or because she loves to poke her nose in the affairs of other countries? If any other country were as powerful as America, wouldn't you think they would be more involved in the affairs of less powerful nations just as America is?

What is it you hate about America? Her behemoth industries and the way they dominate the world of global capitalism? Her cultural exports which are gradually becoming a part of your everyday life and those of your kids– movies, music, food, clothes? Her arrogant neo-con politicians who feel the rest of the world really doesn't matter? Her dumb citizens who know next to nothing about the rest of the world? Her greedy preachers who amass a fortune while telling others about the coming of the kingdom of God? Her ruling political class which talks about human rights yet treats non-American citizens caught in a War on Terror as subhumans? Her ultra-rich, movie stars and sport stars that you would want to just get away from but who keep popping up each time you put on the television set? Her industrial lobby which seems so bent on increasing its profit base that it distorts reality and shamefully ignores the menace of global climate change?

Is America hated because she is America or because she is the most powerful nation in the world? And if you hate her, do you boycott American products – rather, can you avoid using American products? Do you believe in the American dream or do you see it as one grand illusion in which a majority working class would always be subject to those who rule the roost?

Whatever your views are on this country, there can be no denying one thing – no other nation affects the lives of people across the world in so many ways each day as America does. And for all its ills, it has managed to build some of the most functional (and sometimes cryptic) organizations in the world. It leads the world in technological innovation and the very reason why I am able to type this message today is because of a country call America. The last time I checked, I was informed that the internet was invented there!
