Giorgio Chiellini praised the Bianconeri’s positive attitude which enabled them to recover from an early setback to clinch three fundamental points in Cesena.
Speaking after the final whistle, the 27-year-old said: “The missed penalty could have changed the game, but we remained clear-headed, attacked and believed we could do it right until the end. Perhaps we didn’t create clear cut chances, but we were always on the offensive.”
The spirited Seahorses kept Juventus at bay for 80 minutes, producing a determined display that defied their league position.
“I’ve always maintained that the toughest games would be the ones against Cesena and Novara, for plenty of reasons: they’re two teams with nothing to lose, both are looking to redeem themselves, both play on synthetic pitches... you can never take anything for granted in this league.
“Now we’ve won the first of these two games, but there’s still an important crossroads that lies ahead. We certainly didn’t underestimate today’s game, but it becomes tough when you’re not able to break the deadlock.”
Juventus found the winning goal ten minutes from time through Marco Borriello’s first strike since his January move to Turin.
“The strikers work hard and wear out opposition defences, so when fresh legs come off the bench they’ve got that little bit extra to score.”
