SO, basically, turkish prime minister said that this ter-act was organized to raise up the islamphobia wave :sergio: I mean what has happened with the turkish nation, from Ataturk to this piece of shit politicans just in 70 years
:lol2: I was out eating dinner and this played out exactly as it should have.

They look like pedophiles.
A pizza-delivering, pot-smoking, malt-liquor-drinking pedophile.

OK, at least one of them.

It's what you get with fairly constant terrorist attacks in the name of Islam. Not to mention the fact that the muslim community never responds harshly to these attacks either. The lack of response might even indicate a sort of sympathy for this kind of behaviour.
But by the same token, if some psychopaths declared themselves juventini and went to every Serie A match just to knife people outside the stadium, how much would most of us have to keep protesting that they're not really juventini like the rest of us?

...
Oh and btw. the terrorattack that has affected me the most in my lief (from a emotional viewpoint) was committed by a white chirstian blond man, with whom I should have more in common with that any Muslim according to the right wing.

Religion isn't the problem. The lack of education, social mobility, old fashion culture (add here the conservative interpretation of islam) and the identity crisis that many especially young men face when growing up in the West with cultural and conservative parents from north africa and the middle east.
Brilliant post, Maddy.

the problem is known to anyone who looks into the history of islam since its inception: lack of central authority.
One of Islam's Achilles Heels, when only God can judge, is the inability for one Muslim to tell another that they've failed to make the measure of a good Muslim with any authority.

One of the best jokes in Stewart Lee's Carpet Remnant World is when he tells his audience about a guy who is "really big in Islam".

Of course! did you see her clothes? She was asking for it :agree:
Nice reference, actually.

OK, so maybe you're offended. But there's a huge-assed freaking gap between being offended by criticism and plotting a shooting rampage. That's like the schoolyard argument where, in response to name-calling, the other kid comes back to chop up his adversary with an axe.

So the Charlie Hedbo satire was offensive to Islam and it was circulated to a relatively small quantity of subscribers. Now everyone in the world is seeing their satires about the prophet Mohammad. Talk about self defeating.
I'll say this much: never heard of Charlie Hebdo. Now I'm really interested in their back catalog.

So when was the last time someone organised a stabbing in the name of Juventus because a funny cartoon was made about Del Piero?

The purpose of the attack was to show power and saw terror.

If you find hard enough I am sure that you will find enough examples of violence in both the Old and the New Testament. Society was vastly different back then.
God pwned all in the Old Testament. Struck down sinners with righteous power like every other week. Only violence the New Testament was Jesus Christ Torture Porn.

Arab social media is abuzz with comment on the Charlie Hebdo attack. While most tweeters condemn the attack and voice solidarity with the victims, some have blamed the magazine for inciting hatred and "terrorism" through its caricatures.

Now It's the magazine's fault...
To be fair, if you spend more of your time teasing the craziest people in the world...

It's like tickling tigers and being surprised when they go Sigfried and Roy on you.

charlie hebdo is hiring

(2 can play that game)
And Islam is proselytizing, and offering more attractive compensation. What's your point?

look up khawarij, if you dont know them already. Islam is so open to interpretation, it allows for the wackiest of people to justify their actions with religion.
Don't you think that's irresponsible of the authors of the Quran to write it that way? Don't you think that justifies the criticism Islam receives for such acts of terror carried out in its name?

The cartoon can only provoke if people take it seriously. You can't draw a provocative cartoon about the Pope, because no one really cares. The cartoon isn't funny without the reaction.

I remember a Belgian cartoon with a white and black kid playing in a sandbox. Then there comes a cat along that covers the black kid in sand. It is so far over the top and so provocative that it becomes funny.

For the record the artist's girlfriend is black.

The second question I honestly do not know the answer to. But the first? No way. You can only be responsible for others for so long.

I don't think they were surprised necessarily. The chief editor got firebombed a few years ago and did have a bodyguard with him for 15 years. I think he knew it wasn't about playing it safe.

Here's my very athiest-sounding belief for you. Religion may be about God, but it's entirely a construct of man. All religions. So if you point your finger at a religion as a root cause, you're not digging deep enough because there's always something human and socially motivating behind the religion and why it exists in the first place (and why other religions do not or no longer exist).

In other words, books don't make people kill people. People make books -- or pervert their meeting to their own aims -- to make people kill people. You eliminate the Quran, that won't stop people from believing and acting as they do. They will find a way -- a fabricated higher purpose as you will -- to fill the void.

They probably understood the risks, but the rest of the world is so shocked. They shouldn't be.

Given that Mexico's human rights commission just said that 97 journalists have been killed in Mexico in connection with their work since 2010, case and point. Imprisonment in Egypt, beheadings in Iraq, etc., etc. These are not good times to be a journalist and pick a beat that isn't about cat videos on YouTube.
