Also the generation with the coolest and classiest players and coaches ever. Late 90s and 00s is the best era of football in my opinion.
Nostalgia aside, it’s the period that has a balance of everything that makes football so enjoyable.

It has the advances of sports sciences and analytics that enable amazing athletes and tactics.

It also has the advances in TV production value and marketing to make it a powerful entertainment experience. Also the emergence of the internet ofc and forums and fantasy football.

But curiously it also has enough of the old player loyalty and class from the pre-hyper commercialized era.

Because there is so much money in the sport, players are highly protected assets now. Maybe it's the nostalgia, but I miss the days when tackles were a bit harder and brushing an arm on the face didn't result in an automatic foul.

For me I prefer current rules and atheltism and the speed of the game, they just need to sort out VAR properly.

The part of the game that’s worse now for me is the hyper-commercialism that killed club and player loyalty.

I also dislike what social media does to players both as a distraction from improving when they’re busy doing sponsors work, and from a mental health standpoint.

The level of scrutiny they’re under now is insane and they get direct visibility into what people are saying about them (including from former players/managers as pundits). I think the likes of Balotelli, Pogba and Rashford would have thrived much more if social media wasn’t a thing.

I fully agree on all counts.
