Interesting. That would mean they’d need to make the semi-finals of the CL to get there. Very unlikely imo.
Yeah, but nothing is official yet. Apparently there's two possible rankings that could be confirmed. One gives extra points for making the CL, the other does not. First option gives us a bigger point difference against Napoli and according to the rumours this criteria is more likely to be confirmed.

So, in this case, as you said, they would need to reach the semis. Another table is inside the tweet. On that one Napoli would need to reach the 1/8.

Anyways, let's hope they'll have a shit draw so we don't have to think about these possibilities anymore. :D

Tonight was the last ever traditional group stage format we'll see in the Champions League again…

From next season, it will be a 'swiss style system'.

36 teams will compete in one big league table, as opposed to groups.

Each team will play 8 matches against 8 different opponents.

The top 8 in the league, will advance to the knockout stages.

Those who finish 9-24th, will compete in two-legged play-offs to join the last 16.(Eurofoot)

Newcastle's season stalling, how quickly things change. A bit of pressure on Eddie Howe now when everything was roses before.

Also shows that it often takes some time to establish yourself as a CL club. But they came into bad form at the wrong time. When this happens it's just about doing enough to get through the group and take it from there in the KO.

That sounds familiar. Wonder where I've heard it before...

I can’t believe the Saudis would accept failure while their Qatari rivals somehow continue to outdo them

Not really. Italy could get the 5th spot too. It’s reserved for the top 2 leagues in this years UEFA coefficient rankings.

Let's be honest man city will at least make the semis irrespective of their opponents, arsenal should do well too. Same can't be said for crapoli and lazio. Inter's position depends on who they face in the next round or 2, hopefully they fucking choke, giving Italy 5 spots is pointless anyways

Gazetta reports that this ranking will be used for the Club world cup, which worsens our situation at little bit. Maximum points Napoli could gain in Round 16 is 5. (2 for each win + 1 point for qualifying). They must reach the quarter final and get one draw there to match our points. I have no idea what happens if both clubs have the same amount of points though. Forza whoever plays them

Oh, and this ranking is official now

Qualifying for the club world cup would guarantee a minimal amount of 50 million euros. Over 2 billion will be distributed among the 32 teams. The winner can earn around 100 million prize money.

That's on the same level as the CL, if not better.

Well at least it’s confirmed it then. Watch them get Sociedad or Dortmund now.
