Dire situation in Bavaria
I don't know if the situation is dire, but it's not as good as some might think.

It can certainly turn into a dire situation in the coming years if the board don't act wisely. Neuer, Müller and Lewa still holds a high level on the pitch but how long will it continue?

Lewa will turn 34 this summer. Will we extend with him or let him leave and who should replace him? Who will replace Neuer?

Goalkeepers can play until their late 30's and still hold a high level, but replacing Neuer in a 2-3 years time (if he extend that is), will be one of the hardest tasks imo.

It kinda is over, it's been since Robbery turned old. Our current wingers are not at their level.

We won the CL in 2020, but it was a fortune with Flick who managed to squeeze something extra out of the team.

The next couple of years will show if the board will manage to rebuild and keep us relevant.
At least you still dominate in your league.

We fail in that too.

Problem was the 3-5-2 he wanted to play yesterday.

Bayern has played a 4-2-3-1 formation for more than a decade, the formation that won us two trebles and made us a force to be reckoned with.

Suddenly Nagelsmann wants to change this to a 3-5-2 because this is the formation he used to play in Leipzig. Thing is our players are not really suited for this style, Coman and Sané will be too inverted as they have to cut in all alone and have no support from a full back.

When Bayern was best you had Lahm and Alaba overlapping Robbery all the time, this made the opponents defenders suffer as their full backs often was caught defending 1 against 2 and be driven out of position.

We demolished Barca and other opponents with this in 2012-13 and did the same in 2019-20. Being aggressive as hell on the wings.

With yesterdays line up it meant Coman and Sané would only play inverted roles as none of them are natural defenders getting to the backline, they take defenders on by cutting inside. Coman can get to the backline, but with no full back coming to support him in an overlap he was left to himself.

This meant Villareal had a quite easy time shutting us down. It also didn't make it easier Davies has been out for nearly 4 months and that Pavard is not the kind of full back we need. I guess thats why we are desperate to get Mazraoui from Ajax.
And you may think injuries can force a change but yesterday Nagelsman had everyone around and still decide to keep playing like that even when everyone knew what Villarreal would play like this

What it makes everything worst, it was the moment when Unai made the subs to launch his counterattack for the flags, Nagelsman change the formation to provide him more space… what amateurish level that was

Yes. I'd say our win in 2020 was fully deserved, also as we played a flawless campaign and won every game.

But it wasn't because our squad was somehow superhuman. Sure we had/have great players in many positions, but I'd say much of it was thanks to Flick and his style. Not to forget we had a very big squad with many good players to choose from.

Perisic was a really good squad player, Coutinho the same.

Bayern are great at doing business to acquire young, talented players. BuLi as a whole isn’t a jar of cockroaches like Serie A where there isn’t a day where the top club isn’t being attacked or accused in some manner by other clubs or governing authorities. But overall it’s the pragmatism of the club and how they conduct themselves and approach things in all aspects.

CL tourney has always required a level of luck to conquer but having a solid squad mirroring a well run club is always an automatic advantage imo

Only good thing for us yesterday was this beautiful tifo of Gerd Müller.

Else it was only a "good ebening" for Villareal.
