IRANIAN TEENAGERS EXECUTED FOR HOMOSEXUALITY

Tehran, IRAN - Two teenagers have been executed in Iran after having been sued for homosexual behaviour. An Iranian press agency reported the execution (death through hanging) had place on Tuesday in the town of Mashdad.

The two teenagers, aged 18 and 17, have been executed through public hanging on the main square in the town. According to an English-language newspaper, the two youngsters had sex with a third boy around the age of 15 - this could, however, not be confirmed.

Strict Iranian Sahria-laws state the victim of a sexual crime, regardless of homosexuality or heterosxuality, should also be sentenced to death through hanging. The two teenagers (during their trials) have been in jail for 14 months, receiving brutal treatment and a total of 228 whip lashes per person. The lawyer of the youngest offender did file for an appeal but the high court of justice only confirmed the death sentence.

Iranian laws state girls from the age of 9 and boys from the age of 15 may be executed for a sexual offense.

UN human rights activists confirmed that more than 4000 homosexuals (men and women) have been put to death in Iran since the Ayatollah regime came to power in 1979.

VICTIMS can be sentenced to death?

Also note that women can be sentenced to death from 9 years of age and men from 15. That's wat pisses me off even more than being sentenced to death for homosexuality.

Exactly. Those details are what stunned me the most, which is why I highlighted them. They sorta came with the article though - so I decided to just post the entire thing.

What bothers me about some people in the west, is that they say how horrible it is that someone gets sentenced to death for being gay. I agree with the fact that it's hardly openminded, but I think we have to keep in mind that we can't be sure our rules are that much better. Why would we be right and would they be wrong?

What I don't agree with however, is discrimination. Whereas, in all reality, you can choose to perform acts of homosexuality, you can't choose being male or female. And I guess that getting raped wasn't your fantasy either. Well, at least in most cases it wasn't.

Huh? How about a rule against capital punishment period? That would pretty much solve the problem, wouldn't it?

You should study sociology, mate. I did - this is exactly the kind of topic that would be discussed. It's very interesting!

I've been thinking about sociology in fact. But job options seem rather limited. I've always wanted to become a journalist, but the problem is that there are so many options available. You can study Italian and become a journalist, but at the same time you could study history and become a journalist as well.

There's no way in knowing whether a rule is right or wrong. Because where do you get that power from? Who says that what you say is right? Who says your rules are correct? That's true and that's why I picked it as an extra-curricular subject. Studied it for 6 months only - but because it counted for a lot of credits I could drop another subject (Corporate economic management - thank GOD for that. I hated it so much).

You are correct that right and wrong differ from person to person. However, just as it would be aloof to impose your judgement of right and wrong on someone, something can only be wrong when it significantly harms another person. Killing someone is where you cross the line from getting to chose what you believe is right or wrong and when you're just universally wrong for the sake of continued existence...

The only thing I find odd and shocking is that victims can be sentenced to death as well. Afterall, nobody chooses to be raped, so how can they be guilty of a crime? As for the consensuals......

we as a society set several rules that infringe our personal freedoms in order to benefit ourselves as a whole.
