well Vinnie singlehandedly carried us in the 2nd half of last season, and has a knack of scoring goals against the big teams, so cut him some slack

If we could only fuse him and Amauri into a single player... we'd have goals all season long!

now if we could genetically modify Vinnie's DNA to have the finishing ability of King David, then we would really have something there

Yeah like I said I've never really rated him but he's not a bad backup. He's way too inconsistent though. And his playing style makes me want to tear me hair out.

Cassano 'was close to Juve move'
Wednesday 28 October, 2009
Antonio Cassano “was pretty close to joining Juventus in the summer,” reveals Sampdoria general manager Beppe Marotta.

“How close was he to Juve? Pretty close,” the transfer guru told the Corriere dello Sport.

“Juve, like other clubs, set their sights on him, but genuine negotiations round a table never materialised.

“As for the chances of him making that move next season, those are very slim. Cassano has proved great love for Samp and we are in a position to keep him. We’ve put him at the centre of our project.”

Cassano will face Juventus this evening in a battle between second and third, a game you can watch LIVE from 19.45 UK time.

The stunning form of the Blucerchiati this season has brought many comparisons with the title-winning side of 1991, who then lost the European Cup Final to Barcelona in extra time a year later.

“Cassano and [Giampaolo] Pazzini is a perfect symbiosis, a winning pair. The comparison to [Gianluca] Vialli and [Roberto] Mancini fits like a glove.

“Perhaps it is more difficult to compare the Scudetto-winning Samp to the current team, as back then there were many champions in the squad.

“A Scudetto for Sampdoria now is a utopia,” added Marotta. “In the long-term, the real quality and strength in depth will emerge.

“We don’t have the squads that the big clubs do and as soon as we get an injury, we have trouble. We already went close to qualifying for the Champions League a couple of years ago and can make it, but in my view the title is beyond reach.”

---

I firmly believe we'll be making a serious move for him this coming summer, as Del Piero will be going on 36 and Cassano seems a natural heir.

No way is Lavezzi as good as Jovetic or Cassano.
Your right, but he would be a good Camo replacement. Would not even cost so much. We need to spend our money on FB & CB, Cassano and Jovetic would each cost 20-25 million. Lavezzi about 15 million. 10 million would buy us Rafinha.

Lavezzi is a forward, maybe more of a second forward but a forward nonetheless. I don't think he can be a Camo replacement at all. Completely different players, Lavezzi will be ineffectual on the wing imo.

In all cases i don't think he is good enough to play for Juve(as controversial as that sounds). I know alot of people rate him very highly here. But for me, i expected him to develop faster.

What do you think of Zarate then?

I think he is a real talent. Very good player. He maybe needs to work a bit more on his teamwork and be a little less selfish(even though i think he has improved on that aspect since last season). I certainly rate him.

But i think he might be a player that excels more when he is a big fish in a small pond.

As much as I want him here. You have hit the nail on the head.
