One could argue that people are part of the environment. Like a tiger to the jungle.
Exactly. The environment has no sympathy. Polar bears? Sheeeet, it's seen off mastodons and wooly mammoths. Overpopulation? Yeah, there are checks and balances for that too -- called disease, lack of food, lack of clean water supplies, infighting. It's all self-regulating in the end.

What has people up in arms is that the terms of that self-regulation may not be so beneficial to most of us.
