Marrone needs more playing time (hence loan to a smaller club), Padoin in average (and if we could land DDR, he and Isla would need to pack their bags) and in any case we need more depth in defence, and I'm not talking Peluso's here. DDR would be a great addition to our team no matter which way you spin it. He could aptly fill in for any of Vidal, Pirlo or Marchisio in CM, and just as easily slot in to any of the positions in the back three. Plus his grinta is suitable to that of a Juve player, with us he has a very realistic chance of winning some pretty major silverware.

Brushing off DDR like some two-bit mid table hack is almost offensive towards the great player he is. Where we to nab him we'd posses 4 players of the 2006 World Cup winning squad, I'd say that isn't bad, since he hasn't even hit 30 yet. It would be no different to Tevez in an age sense, his value isn't quite what it once was but can still offer many years of quality, high level football and being able to play in a number of versatile positions.

Brushing him off as a two-bit mid table hack? You've got a lively imagination, yeah? Who said anything about that? Also, why would we want to collect players from the 2006 WC winning squad, when we're headed for 2013-2014?

Bud, Padoin and Isla don't typically play the role/position that DDR does. He is a very, very good player, but we have both Pogba, and Asabob who should be getting games in central midfield. Both are box to box, we don't need to add DDR for 20M+ or whatever, plus huge wages (For Serie A). It just doesn't make sense, it would be excessive, and stunt the growth of some young, quality players who the club invested in last year, guys who have earned playing time, and are much more affordable.

If we want to upgrade the midfield, the way to do it would be to add a true LWB. Thing is, I really appreciate Asamoah as a player, and for now the only way he's going to get any time right now is at LWB; I don't really see a purchase of a Kolarov, etc., I think Beppe/Conte will spend the money elsewhere. We'll see.

If Prandelli can play him for Italy there whose midfield offers far less protection to defenders I can't see why Conte would leave him on the sidelines.

I agree, we do need to sell a few players and it is one of the only legitimate criticism people may have of Marotta (his inability to sell), but when the opportunity arises to sign a world class player like Tevez, you need to take it.
