40M is about the going rate for a good young player. Just look at Juve; dybala, berna and chiesa all cost around that and thats going back nearly a decade.

I wouldn't put it past this management to do dumb shit like exercising that option. He could have the crappiest of seasons, have one good game at the end, and that'll be enough to convince them.

This new management is known for doing Paratici signings of risky and random expensive signings for no reason?

I wasn't aware, pray tell, which one of these since Giuntoli officially took over are such cases? (Weah was before he took over, but if you wanna count him 12m):

Facundo Gonzalez (20 - Defender) €1.65m

Tiago Djalo (23 - Defender) €3.6m

Vasilije Adzic (17 - Midfielder) €5m

Carlos Alcaraz (21 - Midfielder) Loan, option to buy €35m or 5bn

Pedro Felipe (19 - Defender) €2m

Francisco Barido (16 - Attacking midfielder) Free

This is basically our board meetings currently:

And it's because of how the PREVIOUS managements post Marrotta, had been mishandling things (Plus the FIGC and UEFA punishments for Super League affiliation).

That's ridiculous if true.

Why pay 3.7m for half a season if we don't intend to take him long term? Particularly if he doesn't seem ready to step into the stating lineup straight away. It's hard to see Allegri playing him from day 1.

49m is crazy in the summer for a guy who isn't regularly starting in the Championship or done much of note since joining Southampton. Our interest will mainly be based on his form in Argentina and he left for around 15m a year ago.

Hopefully he is closer to being a starter than he looks but all just seems like a last minute panic.
And he is not in starting eleven in Soton. Surprised if this true. €3.7m is expensive for 6 months loan. It means €7.4m a season. If we need him urgently, i can understand but with only Coppa and Serie A, we could only need him as back up and integrate him slowly. And for the option we still have Nonge or can look elsewhere for cheap backup solution

Either he was super versatile, or the coach is confused or hates him and put him new position every time :D

This year, Carlos #Alcaraz did a bit of everything with #Southampton:
6 games as a first striker
5 as trequartista
5 as central midfielder
3 as right wing
2 as left wing...
