I would pick Gentile.

Personally i don't think Nesta is capable of marking Maradona if they met on a pitch, not now, not ever. On the other hand, Gentile ripped him apart.

I would definitely choose Physicality/Power (Chiellini) over Class/Elegance (Nesta).

Inter won a treble last year and i don't see class in their back line or anywhere else in the whole club to be frank.
I very much doubt Gentile could have marked Maradona out of the game with modern refereeing.

Gentile would have been sent off before half time nowadays if he tried the same things he did back then.

True, I agree, but we cant say that today, its not fair.
Maybe if he played today, he'd know how to stop his man without getting booked, we always play to the limits we are allowed you know.

Chiellini is under 2-3 best defenders in the world .

Chiellini> Puyol,Pique,Terry,Vidic,Ferdinant,Alex,Pepe,Lucio,Samuel,Th.Silva

But problem is they are couples ex :

Vidic + Ferdinant > Chiellini + Bonucci
Pique + Puyol > Chiellini + Bonucci
Wrong. Have you seen Ferdinand lately? He's a joke.
Probably right, can't argue with that.

What? He doesn't look good nor calm with the ball at his feet. Plus I find it very frustrating seeing him clearing the ball up high the pitch to no one.

He's a very good defender, not a very good footballer.
And that mean's he's not intelligent?

The closest thing we'll get to a new Nesta will be Ranocchia IMO. The kid really reminds me of Nesta.
We'll be getting Ranocchia?

My bad, you actually didn't.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't have a "footballing brain". Because he actually is a smart defender. Whether he is good on the ball or not, is something different. And this season he actually has been playing the ball well.
Chiellini is one of my favorite players at Juventus, probably my favorite only after Buffon. For me a CB should first and foremost be able to defend well, which Giorgio is excellent at. But to be considered a top CB in today's football, you have to be comfortable with the ball at your feet, which unfortunately he isn't, but that doesn't automatically puts him in the unintelligent category of footballers.

And yes, this season, with Bonucci beside him and playing in a team with an actual game plan, he seems to be playing the ball rather well than before.

Agreed that he isn't the best of ball players, but right now, I can't think of many who can defend on his level.

And yes, his improved play is probably down to what you said. His erratic style before was likely down to his not wanting to take risks in a team that couldn't keep possession anyway.

Is he performing in Genoa like he did when he was in Bari?

2000' Nesta would have marked Maradonna,Pele,Muller and any other.

I believe that if Maradonna played in these days he would have never been the same Maradonna, modern football is much more tougher with highly defensive tactics.

I've said it before but Chiellini isn't a donkey, I remember when he played left back and there was no problem, the only issue he has is that he rushes and plays a hi tempo game, he is all action and that is to the detriment of technique (like many PL games :D).

He does need to show much more composure, he got away with two handballs on Friday night, and a whole host of silly mistakes due to being too erratic.
Not something we want to see.

    Chiellini rubbishes nutmeg talk
    Monday 11 October, 2010
Giorgio Chiellini has jokingly denied Giuseppe Rossi's claims that he was nutmegged during training while on international duty at the weekend.

Rossi tweeted that he'd made a fool of the Juventus centre-back, writing: “I am happy for the nutmeg I did on the great Chiellini a couple of days ago…. hahaha!

“I told him that I wouldn't write about it on Twitter.”

It wasn't long before Chiellini responded, though, joking to his 49,500 followers: “I can assure you that Giuseppe Rossi never nutmegged me, otherwise he wouldn't be able to walk anymore.”

The pair will be required to put their 'differences' aside ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia at Marassi in Genoa.
