He should always start when fit, and then get a season-ending injury somewhere between January and March leaving us to rely on someone else for the crunch end of the season.

I love Giorgio but in how many of seasons since Cardiff has he been unavailable when we needed him most?

Instead we should be grooming someone else to be ready for these moments - to get their experience and build understanding within the defensive unit. Giorgio could be useful for rotation and closing out games. And IF he's fit when the big games come around, maybe use him. But for the majority of other games he should sit out and let the younger defenders get their time. We have to move on from him eventually.

As great as his save on Darmian's close effort was, he was very slow with reaction on Lautaro's. Overall good game and never looked rattled, even when we forced play from the back, which few times led to nerve wrecking moments.

It should come as no surprise whatsoever that our good results came since Giorgio's and De Ligt's returns. Absolute beasts. They should be our starting defenders every single fucking game when both are available.
