more feeedback...

Pretty good reactions James. I had some of the same. Let me add a
few comments.

>3) It was Capello's fault we were knocked out to Liverpool ...

Capello has to take his fair share of the blame. There was some bad
luck in the first leg, especially Del Piero's disallowed goal. But
the team came out too flat in Anfield and the coach has to take some
responsibility for not having his team raring to go. And I did not
understand this overly cautious approach in the second leg. We are
playing in our stadium, only need a 1-0 win. We still need to come
out somewhat aggressive, not have a patient approach, which played
right into Liverpool's feet. And the thing that hurt us the most in
this round, which leads to the next myth is Capello's insistence to
play a less than healthy Emerson. I give the player credit for
trying to play hurt in a day where too many athletes will find
excuses not to play. But Emerson had a serious injury that limited
his "style" of play, which made him ineffective. And that hurt us
in this two-legged affair.

>4) Capello hates Del Piero .......

As James pointed out, try to convince us that ....

> (a) when Del Piero played well he wasn`t substituted and
> (b) that all other forwards at Juve are subbed when they are
playing badly

But let's look beyond the other strikers. Capello looks the other
way with his favorites. When Zlatan played poorly or acted
foolishly, Capello kept him on the pitch. There were matches when
Zalayeta was brought on that it made more sense to replace
Ibrahamovic instead of Del Piero. Then there is Emerson. He played
too many games while injured. I like the player, think he is good
but in all honesty, does he give us that more of an edge over the
other central midfielders whose traits are to be destroyers. As I
have stated in the past, Emerson does not conjure images of a
Brazilian midfielder. Yet, Capello could not play without him. Can
someone truly say that Tacchinardi had a poor season? How can
someone have a poor season if he hardly gets a chance? And what
about Thuram, Capello's choice for captain. Were there not matches
that he should have been replaced?

I have never understood this image expected by many of how Del Piero
is suppose to play. He has developed into a team player and yet,
many want him to be the selfish player of his youth. I recall one
match this season that he received criticism for not being able to
finish a goal scoring opportunity, from this list, the media and
others. Truth is that on that particular play, he had Zlatan on his
right, in an offside position. That allowed the defender to
concentrate on Del Piero and cut the angle on him. If Zlatan played
it correctly, staying on side, then the defender had to either play
between them or go after the ball. The former would have given Alex
an opening, the latter would have allowed a pass to Ibrahimovic.
But a lot of people do not understand the complexity of the game and
how little things like movement off of the ball can affect chances.
Del Piero has grown as player. He may not be as fast as he was in
his early 20's but then again, who is. And considering the injuries
he has suffered, his game has evolved beyond just having better
physical ability over his opponent.

Maybe Capello does not hate Del Piero but he certainly is not one of
his favorites. Could you imagine the polemica in Roma if Totti was
put on the same yo-yo that Del Piero went through this season. And
as much as Del Piero was benched because of his "poor" play, what
did he accomplish? He was the second leading scorer on the team and
among the top in Serie A. Of his goals, 8-9 were game winners for
Juve. The truth is that he was mistreated by Capello for no reason
at all. Yet, he soldiered on during the season and when the team
truly needed him, he came through. Let's not forget that Capello's
favorite, Ibrahomovic, was suspended for 3 games during the stretch
run, including Milan. It was the brilliance of Del Piero that beat
Milan in the crucial match.

The author points out to some successes among players because of
Capello. As James pointed out, if that is the case, then should he
not take the blame for the failures. Confidence in your play is
very significant in this game. Too many players were easily
discarded by Capello and some never recovered. Tell me how was it
that in the end, Pessotto was able to make such a big contribution.
It was out of necessity but we all know that he could have given
more through the season. Same could be said of Montero and
Ferrara. Yes, past their prime but if used more sparingly during
the season, could have been big contributors. I keep hearing about
what a great bench Milan has (Inter too). THere is nothing wrong
with our bench. We have very good players that if used correctly,
will play big roles for our team. There are only 11 starters, not
22, so more can be accomplished with players who can fill in roles
than whine about not playing.

Bottom line is that Capello is a very complex individual. I do not
think anyone can describe him in a nutshell.

Looking at whether cap was a traitor... you focus solely on his lack of pay... but you dont mention even a few of the other arguments... such as the fact he stated he would never sign for juve... how us one week before he left he assured the roma fans he would be their manager the next season and talked of his plans for romas future...
Or how he even in his last days was making plans for the off season and the pre season (costing roma alot of money).. or how he didnt even tell sensi he was leaving... or how he brought players in under false pretence that he would be their manager in his last moments at the club.... etc etc... these arguments for the prosecution go on and on
I've already told Dan these points.

Your also missing one more, everyone knew this season we were going to have to rely on our youth players. It was the main reason for Prandelli's appointment.

So, allow me to quote then youth coach Conti

++ [ originally posted by Bruno Conti] ++

just few days before quitting, Mr Capello asked me for a detailed report on our best young players. I wondered why. Know I know the answer
So, we know what he was playing, he was planning to steal our very future from us?

This argument about him not being paid, yes he wasnt, but think about when he hired him we gave him the biggest contract even to a coach in Serie A, Capello would of known about the finacial situation, so he demanded to leave because we just couldnt pay him the insane amount of money we offered him in the first place, he could of showed us a bit of loyalty to us, Sensi would of offered him a new contract, but no Moggi came in and Capello skipped along to the big pay-check. Traitor? Your damn right he is.

btw, I'd so love to get into a debate against you Shadowfax, from that you'd probably beat me, but I'd still love too :)

Your paragraph is contundent, clear, hammer-like.

What would you do if someone convinces you to sign offering you the biggest contract "ever" in serie A, then suspend your paychecks for 8 months and later said you he counldnt pay the insane amount of money he offered you in the first place ???
That only demostrates that that someone is or a liar, or an imbecile. Probably both... just the perfect candidate for loyalty...

Lets face it, Capello sign in first place for Roma AC just for the money Sensi was offering him . As a matter of fact, Roma , despite some good seasons, as been always second line team in Serie A , and was not enough team for Capello. Would be too difficult for for him to accomplish is ambitions of winning scudetti and CL Cup.
And when he came to Juve, he sign a contract contemplating a sustancial reduction (25%) of the wages he was "earning" in Roma...And do you know why? Because he was desperate to join a real competitive side, someone able to win....At Torino, part of his paycheck are the victories.....

;)

Had it of been me, I'd of been angry...IF I needed the money, you cant tell me that he was in 'finacial difficulty' and needed the money so desperately, he would of got paided and EVERYONE knows that, he only had to wait.

So, we...never won at Roma???
