short term solution, he would only be able to play another 1-2 years and then he'd go odd to napoli, we should focus on players with 4-5 years left like meira, marquez and heinze and then barzagli would also be a good option if we could grab him for around the £8m mark

And...

Cannavaro on transfer market Sunday 15 July, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabio Cannavaro is not part of new Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster’s plans, so Juventus and Chelsea are preparing a swoop.

Fabio Capello brought in the 2006 World and European Player of the Year, but his dismissal has forced a change of management in Madrid.

It is reported that new Coach Schuster does not want to keep hold of him after signing Christoph Metzelder from Borussia Dortmund and £19m-rated Pepe from Porto.

Newcastle United and Chelsea have made inqiuries after the 33-year-old defender, but he would prefer a return to Italy.

For some time there has been talk of Cannavaro’s Juventus comeback and former teammate David Trezeguet this weekend stated that it was a definite option.

“We spoke about it in the locker room and the door is always open to Fabio. He is still the Italy captain and one of the strongest defenders in the world,” explained Trezeguet.

Jose Mourinho is reported to be monitoring Fabio Cannavaro’s situation with Real Madrid.

The World-Cup winning captain of Italy has repeatedly been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital, with the Madrid fans deriding his patchy form throughout the season.

Newly appointed head-coach, Claudio Ranieri, has already ruled out any potential deal that would see the defender return to his former club Juventus, thus leaving the door open for Chelsea to attempt to lure the Italian to London.

The story first appeared in The People, who claim new Madrid boss Bernd Schuster has already informed Cannavaro that he is free to search for a new club.

With the expensive arrivals of central-defenders Pepe and Christoph Metzelder it seems Schuster might be looking for a new direction with his defensive line, with no first-team spot assured for Cannavaro.

Although Jose Mourinho has already secured the services of Tal Ben Haim from Bolton and Alex from PSV Eindhoven as defensive cover, he will still see the signing of Cannavaro, a world-class central defender, as a major coup and possibly to tempting to turn down.

IMO he wouldnt even think of joining Chelsea. He isnt guaranteed a starting position with Terry, Carvalho, Alex and Ben-Haim there. It would also disrupt the harmony in the Chelsea locker room.

According to the English press the future of Fabio Cannavaro does not preview a return in bianconera mesh, left hurriedly the slid year after notes vicissitudes of Calciopoli. The British domenicale "People", in fact, sees it like a objective of the portuguese technician Jos Mourinho in order to reinforce the defense of the Chelsea. For this Mourinho it would have asked for dealing with the Spanish leaders for a its purchase.

well the players want canna back so it seems, or at least dont seem against the idea, i think what the board are saying is a smokescreen, or perhaps it was true as they didnt think canna would be released, but now the situation has changed, perhaps the board will think twice and actually make a move.

Cannavaro MUST admit

Juventus was his reason of success

Juventus made him a champion

he betrayed us,he should pay his debt to Juventus fans

Then maybe he could be Champion Cannavaro again

of course we should not pay more than 5 million

Not any real news here. Just the press trying to sell some papers using Cannavaro's name...There has never been a real official offer for his head.

If he comes to Juve for less then 5m €, cuts his wages and apologizes for leaving the ship while it was sinking then I'll be more then happy to welcome him back.

His Neapolitan buddy Criscito would benefit a lot from this.
