Juventus was the absolute protagonist at “Campioni per sempre” (Champions forever), gala organized by sportsnewspaper Gazzetta dello Sport to award the protagonists of the Italian sport in 2002.

At the Ariston Theatre in Sanremo there were be the volley female national team, the biker Marco Melandri (world champion in the 250 motorbike class) and Rubens Barrichello from Ferrari, the swimmers Davide Rummolo and Emiliano Brembilla, plus some other famous Italian sportsmen, hosted by Pippo Baudo, Luisa Corna and Andrea Zorzi, who will introduce the show, but the real protagonists werethe Juventus players.

In the Top 11 of Serie A, voted by the football fans on the Gazzetta-website, bianconeri took six places, with Marcello Lippi as ideal coach: Gigi Buffon (best goalkeeper), Lilian Thuram (best right-side defender), Gianluca Pessotto (best left-side defender), Edgar Davids and Mauro German Camoranesi (midfielder) and Alessandro Del Piero (forward) were awarded with the “Golden Rose”. The other four players of the ideal team were Vieri, Totti, Nesta, Maldini and Emerson.

The only bianconero who missed the event was Alessandro Del Piero, selected for the “Rest of the World” team which will play against Real Madrid in the “Real Madrid Centenary Match”, while all the others were at the cerimony, which will be broadcasted this evening at 20.55, on Raiuno Tv.
