Former Juventus coach Gigi Maifredi claims Luciano Moggi was on the precipice of signing Cristiano Ronaldo and Steven Gerrard while he was a director at the club. The Italian also believes Calciopoli was invented to ruin the success enjoyed by the Bianconeri.

Maifredi was coach during the early 1990's and after years in the shadows, he has emerged with some striking revelations.

"Calciopoli? It's best to put a veil over this. But let me tell you this, Moggi and [Antonio] Giraudo had already bought Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo," Maifredi told RadioErre2 programme "Tutti Pazzi Per La Juve".

"The foundations for a Bianconeri dominion had been laid down and it would have lasted for at least 20 years. Instead certain people invented a scandal in order to kill such a strong team."

Maifredi was then keen to turn his attention to matters closer to home as Juventus struggle domestically and in Europe. The former Bianconeri tactician believes the club was wrong to offer the role to Ciro Ferrara. He suggests Ferrara has to go in order to rediscover success.

"Ferrara was a great player, but I don't think he was ready for the Juventus job. I think it was wrong to bring him in for the future as Juventus play to win instantly. You cannot wait around for success here," he added.

"Comparing this to my old Juve I can see that they are missing a coach who is right for such a competent and succesful club.

"If I was in Ferrara's place we would be ahead of Inter with such a great squad."

The embargo on Goal.com has seized.

But this coach even if right about Ciro, is rather arrogant mofo, and also saying nothing else but we had Gerrard and CRon signed doesnt exactly make him any less ridicolous.

The only thing that is good about this is that goal.com has a really wide reach. Its audience size is huuuuge and they always over exaggerate.
I am hoping this makes some people dig in the trial's history and see for themselves that something is fishy about calciopoli.

before the gazzetta announced that Juve are going to Serie C, there was a thread in mercato forum, ''moggi working on blockbuster deal'' or something like that. majority thought it would be gerrard. it seems it could be truth after all.

I know it was ridicoulus, but there was soap opera that surrounded Ronaldo after WC and his bust up with Rooney. If I remember correctly he was on the verge of leaving, and they were rumours that we made offer Camo+cash for him. Now that look ludacris, but at that time Ronaldo wasn't popular like now, and he was yet to reach his prime...

So I say it was plausable. Sometimes I jsut want to believe to all this, it's easier to deal with all the shit that happened to us

Calciopoli never existed, says Moggi Wednesday 2 December, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has denied Calciopoli ever existed in light of claims from Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The matter has resurfaced of late with De Laurentiis making the sensational claim that he feels a new Calciopoli is emerging in Italian football.

De Laurentiis is upset with a number of refereeing decisions that have gone against his side even though Napoli are on an eight-game unbeaten run.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss, Moggi asked: “What is Calciopoli? Calciopoli is the refereeing mistakes, nothing more. There have always been mistakes. Up until a certain moment the Presidents all spoke about good faith, then De Laurentiis, Zamparini, the President of Bologna, and Mourinho got fed up and now they all talk about Calciopoli.

“They are all complaining now since referees are making mistakes in industrial quantities. The referees make mistakes and Trefoloni, who is the worst, is obviously led to making such mistakes. Anyway I don't believe in conditioning the Calciopoli trials in Napoli. Trefoloni is distracted by nature.

“The truth is that Calciopoli does not exist. It only exists in the mind of those who wanted to carry forward this thing and it's demonstrated by the sentence recently delivered in Turin that has disclosed the existence of an alliance to see Juventus defeated.

“The absolution that comes from the trial in Turin says a lot because the fact does not hold. Calciopoli was born because the club has not defended itself in Roma and in Turin. The referees make mistakes, some because they are not capable, others because they have to make important decisions in a few seconds.
Trefoloni could even have three minutes, he would still make the same mistakes,” he concluded.
