Juventus ex-boss faces new trial

The scandal which engulfed Moggi shocked football fans across Europe

Former Juventus football club director Luciano Moggi has been committed for criminal trial over allegations of match-fixing by top Italian clubs.

A court in Rome sent 25 people for trial in January, including Mr Moggi, his counterparts at Fiorentina and Lazio, and four top referees.

Moggi was banned from football for five years at a 2006 sports trial.

Juventus was stripped of back-to-back league titles for 2005/6 and relegated to the second division over the affair.

The club is now back in the top flight.

Moggi could face prison if convicted after a judge at the preliminary hearing in Naples decided prosecutors had presented enough evidence to warrant a trial.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito, Fiorentina honorary president Diego Della Valle and Reggina president Pasquale Foti are also among the accused.

The match-fixing scandal stunned football fans across Europe.

It revolved around transcripts of phone taps which appeared to show key figures in Italian football putting pressure on referees to favour certain clubs.

The allegations were uncovered as prosecutors investigated doping allegations at Juventus, Italy's most popular and successful club.

That separate inquiry resulted in club doctor Riccardo Agricola being found guilty of administering drugs to players in the mid-90s.

Moggi slams Juve market

Disgraced former Juventus transfer guru Luciano Moggi has blasted the Old Lady's summer signings.

The Old Lady are struggling after draws with Catania, Sampdoria and BATE Borisov and a defeat against Palermo.

Director Jean-Claude Blanc has admitted that Juve need to return to the market in January and Moggi believes that is an admission that the men who replaced him have failed.

“The team will surely have a good championship given the current limits on their potential,” Moggi told Libero.

“They needed to keep hold of Adrian Mutu and not to sign Amauri, who wouldn't have been needed.

“They would have saved lots of money like that, which could have been invested in signing a good defender and especially a midfielder who can control the pace to prevent Mauro Camoranesi from having to play out of position.

“Had they done that they would have had a more competitive squad, but instead they are dealing with the results of a strange market.”

Werder Bremen midfielder Diego, Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lazio's Cristian Ledesma are possible targets for the future.

It's easy for Moggi to say stuff about keeping Mutu, because he didn't have to make the calls when it looked like we could be spending two years out of Serie A and at least three out of the CL.

Moggi is by far better then all the people in the management now!
Guilty or not, he knew what talent was and I am sure that he would have done a much better job then what we have right now...

It looks like the great midfield this management got to strengthen the Juve midfeild (Poulsen) is as big of a flop if not bigger then Tiago!

Oh yes they were and now he's continuing to bark.
Let me remind you that we got Zlatan and Cannavaro. At the moment Zlatan was one of Europe's biggest talents and Cannavaro was a masterpiece in defence.
What has this board done? Bought Amauri for an idiotic high price at the age of 28. Next to that we got Mellberg/Knezenic.

Moggi has his flaws and I'm not entirely sure he's completely innocent, but personally I think the man IS a transfer guru, and he was right - whether we would've kept Mutu or not with him still in charge is up in the air, but we definitely wouldn't have sold Ibrahimobitch to binter... I've already stated I personally don't think Amauri was the most necessary acquisition and he's right about the midfielder and defender too. Fuck!

Untrue. Is Moggi the reason that our stupid board overpaid players such as Amauri, Tiago and Sissoko? The correct answer is no. If we paid the money worth for the players, we could've bought a good defender in stead of Mellberg.
What Bes said is true, actually. But what he said doesn't make your statement untrue.
You're both right. We were relegated (rightfully or not) because of Moggi and the relegation (which led to financial problems) mixed with the incompetence of our BOD members is the reason why we got Knezevic, Mellberg and the likes.

Where did I say anything about the current board being better than Moggi?
