UEFA president Michel Platini has hit out at Milan’s 2007 Champions League victory, and says that the club should not have even been in the competition due to the Calciopoli scandal.

Milan were implicated in the 2006 Calciopoli crisis, and were originally deducted 15 points from their 2005/06 Serie A tally, as well as being chucked out of the Champions League.

However following a successful appeal the Rossoneri’s punishment was cut to eight points, while they were allowed to enter the Champions League at the qualifying stage.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men would then go all the way in the competition following some breathtaking displays against the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United, culminating in a 2-1 final win over Liverpool in Athens.

UEFA President Michel Platini has hit out at Milan’s success, and says they should never have been in the competition to begin with due to their links with corruption.

"Two years ago I was against the participation of Milan,” Platini told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“This is all the more reason why I do not support the admission of a club like Porto, involved this year in corruption.”

Porto, like Milan in 2006, were originally banned from next season’s competition due to their links to corruption in Portugal, however they have now been reinstated following an appeal.

Today 3 referees who had won appeals or reversed decisions from Calciopoli were none the less denied their right by AIA to be Serie A referees for the upcoming season.

Their names are Paparesta, Pieri and Bertini.

Ironically, the games that apparently landed Juventus in Serie B were:

    Juventus-Udinese (Rodomonti/Farina*)

*Farina actually refereed the previous Udinese game and it was alleged that players were wrongfully booked while sitting on yellow cards ruling them out of their next game with Juve. It turned out no one was sitting on a yellow from Udinese.

    Juventus-Sampdoria (Dondarini)

In any case, despite the likely scenario being that these referees will be tagged as “Moggi influenced”, in truth they are far from it and were accused of influencing matches that had nothing to do with Juventus. In fact Paparesta was yelled at for having screwed Juventus against Reggina that season.

Italian players charged after match-fixing probe

ROME, July 4 (Reuters) - Five players have been charged over alleged match-fixing in last season's home and away Serie A fixtures between Atalanta and relegated Livorno, Italy's football federation (FIGC) said on Friday.

Atalanta's Gian Paolo Bellini and former Livorno captain David Balleri have been charged with seeking to fix the results of the games on Dec 23, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and May 4, which Atalanta won 3-2, the FIGC said.

Livorno brothers Emanuele and Antonio Filippini, along with team mate Alessandro Grandoni, have also been reported by the federation's prosecutor to the national disciplinary commission for a failure to inform the authorities about the events.

The two clubs were also reported to the commission over the behaviour of their players.

"I don't think there was any type of agreement at all," Luigi Del Neri, the coach of Bergamo-based Atalanta, was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport's website (www.gazzetta.it). "Atalanta played to win, as always."

It's funny how they picked up on Livorno-Atalanta but turned a blind eye to Inter-Everyone last season.

If this season is as fixed as last season I hope fan violence escalates. I see it as being the only way to get UEFA/FIFA to force their hand.
