Moratti Demands Two More Stolen Scudetti
Inter President Massimo Moratti has declared that Juventus stole two of the Nerazzurri’s Scudetti, one in 1998 and another on May 5, 2002.
On Sunday Inter won their second straight Scudetto on the pitch following their 2-0 win over Parma at the Stadio Tardini.
Due to the 2006 Scudetto that was stripped from Juventus and handed to Inter following the Calciopoli crisis, in theory the Beneamata have won three Serie A titles on the trot.
Despite this President Moratti is not satisfied, and he believes that Inter have really won five Scudetti during his leadership, only that they had two more stolen from them by Juventus.
"Not even the team of my father has managed to win three championships in a row,” stated Moratti, referring to the 'Grande Inter’ of the 1960s.
“I do not like to make comparisons, but we have really won five. There was a final in Rome, and a Scudetto at Juventus."
The first match Moratti was referring to was a match at the Stadio Delle Alpi in 1997/98 between Juventus and Inter. There were four games remaining in the season and the Bianconeri were one point clear in the title race. They led the game 1-0 when Inter believe they should have been awarded a penalty in the second half for a foul on Ronaldo by Mark Iuliano. Juve won the game 1-0 and went on to comfortably win the Scudetto.
The second game in question revolves around the spectacular title collapse of May 5, 2002, when Inter only needed to win their last game at Lazio to win the title, only to lose 4-2 after a host of defensive mistakes. Juve won their game against Udinese to take the title.
