Del Piero was the best player overall last season, but i predict a close race between him and Zlatan.

Hamsik was the best youngster last season, Zlatan was the best foreign player and Del Piero the best Italian player. Chiellini will win the best defender award while Spalletti will win the best coach award and Rossetti will be the best ref.

The only doubt, apart from best player overall, is for the goalkeeper position. JC was the best goalkeeper imo, but Buffon has so much popularity that i can't really predict with certainity that JC will win it.

If it's up to me it's Del Piero (overall+italian), Zlatan (foreign), Giorgio (defender), Hamsik (youngster), Spalletti (coach), Rossetti (ref).

Between Hamsik and Giovinco it is obvious who is the bigger talent but this particular award is deservedly Hamsik's since he is a key playerto his team while Giovinco is warming the bench.

Giorgio and Alex are crystal clear winners and it will be a massive scandal if one of these two fail to win their award.

Gigi shouldn't win this award since he's been injured for almost half the year. Cesar is my pick.

Best player overall is between Zlatan and Del Piero and noone comes close to these.

Nesta, Pirlo, Kaka and Ancelotti are only there because of one reason and his name is Berlusconi. Laughable and scandalous that they're nominated and it should come as no surprise that at least one of them will win their cathegory as a consolation price.

Best puppet of Morratti is Rossetti, he fullfilled his mission in an impressive manner.

And why is there a section for best defender when there isn't one for midfielders or attackers? Like defenders can't win best Italian, foreign or overall player so they have to have a section for their own. Ridiculous.

Oh, this is for 2008, not for 2007/08?

If it's only for 2008 then it's 50-50 between Zlatan and Del Piero. Zlatan didn't score 9 fake penalties in 2008 (he scored most of them in 2007 :D). Actually, he was great in 2008. Scored 19 goals in serie A and only 3 from penalties. He also brought the scudetto to Inter in the last round and he's keeping them on top this season.
Del Piero was just as good, if not even better. Ale scored 21 goals in serie A, 4 from penalties.
It's a close call, but i'm on Del Piero this time.

Actually when you think about it every category has a crystal clear winner except for best overall where the race is between DP-Ibra.

Zlatan best player overall? :howler: for what? scoring 9 fake penalty kicks? riiiiiight
I dont think they go after goals only, but they will go by ratings alot, and Ibra has lead those in the last couple of years, and in that regard is overally the best, the reason the champions are the champions. Ale has a very strong case of winning and his only competition, but I dont think they will choose him.

The confusing thing is that the article says the votings took place during pre-season.

That was exactly the part that made me think it's for 2007/08.
Also, if it was only for 2008 then Pato would have been there while Pirlo, Nesta and few others weren't going to be nominated.

But on the other hand, why would they announce the winners in January if the votings took place half a year ago?

    Something's wrong with that article.

The winners are allways announced at January, and the prizes are marked by the year, NOT season, so its probably for the whole year and nothing else.
