How was the conference, Greg? :)
Actually, not half bad. It was an O'Reilly conference, but a lot fewer of the software geeks. More of the business types.

There's a scary element of people who drink the blog Kool-Aid just a bit too much there ... it's almost a religion. But I learned a few things and met some interesting people. And got some cheesy Yahoo 10th anniversary martini glasses to take home with me.

    TACO, I LOVE TACO!
Taco Bell takes on a whole new meaning, doesn't it?

It makes me think of when Ford came out with the Comet in Mexico and called it the "Caliente", thinking it would be translated as "hot". When instead, it was interpreted more as the Mexican slang interpretation: the Ford Prostitute.

That's right up there with the Nissan (I think) Pajero (again, I think). I'm told it translates as Nissan Wanker.

I'm still waiting for the Nissan Padovano. ;)

I would give it to the FFA (no, not that FFA): Fransciscan Family Apostolate.

    I sponsor a family in India--costs us $25/ month.
They spend the money on food, medicine and education.

The first family we sponsored "graduated", ie they became self-sufficient.

$600 will build a family a house. Someday...

Funny thing about the blog culture. I was at the annual grid conference in Norway in late May and there was this "older" (50-ish) grid specialist from Cern giving a talk. Just as he plugged in his laptop to the projector, everyone could see what was on the screen, before he quickly cycled the screen to Powerpoint. It was a website with the words "your blog has been posted successfully" :D

Oh hey those things I love. I got a yellow SGI mug, a kewl IBM bag I use for soccer practice, a Sun bottle opener, an AMD pen etc :D

If I had 100 €, I'd spend the half betting on football trying to earn for a new cellphone, and I'd spend the other 50 on... gas probably and drinks (because alcohol is cheap here... for US terms).
