Gigi Buffon says the Bianconeri’s strong pre-season form can only bode well as they prepare to launch their Scudetto defence in next Sunday’s home game against Parma.
Last season’s title triumph, combined with a morale-boosting 4-2 Super Cup victory over Napoli, means that the feel-good factor is continuing to rise in Turin, and Buffon believes the team’s confidence levels are unrecognisable when compared to this stage last season.
“It’s a different environment with respect to last year,” commented the 34-year-old. “There’s more positivity and belief around the place. As far as the Champions League is concerned, we’ll face it with the same approach shown in the championship just a few months ago.”
Another noticeable change is the absence of Alessandro Del Piero. And after paying tribute to the club’s all-time top scorer after the final whistle in Beijing, Buffon revealed that the former skipper continues to keep a close eye on the team’s fortunes.
“I heard from Ale shortly before our game against Napoli and he asked me to pass on his best to the entire team. We often text each other, we played together for 11 years, a significant period of time.”
