Buffon has missed all of the season so far after undergoing shoulder surgery, but he revealed today that he’ll soon return to boss Fabio Capello’s disposal.
"My return is imminent," the goalkeeper, who is widely regarded as the best in the world, stated on Wednesday. "I should be back in the space of two or three games.
"I want to compliment Abbiati though for what he has done over these past few months.
"I hope he can stay here once I’m back, even if it is true to say that a goalkeeper like him deserves to play regularly."
Abbiati is only on loan in Turin after Milan offered him as a form of compensation, given that Buffon was injured in a pre-season friendly with the Rossoneri.
Although he is contracted to the Bianconeri until the end of the season, Abbiati – despite a few howlers at the Delle Alpi – has been linked with another move.
Palermo are just one club interested in the shot-stopper who recently appeared in goal for Italy against Holland and the Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, Buffon has reassured nervous fans that Coach Capello is not about to leave for England or Spain.
"Will Capello join Real Madrid? These stories have appeared in order to destabilise the environment," he commented.
