Gigi Buffon believes Juve’s increased tempo in the second half was the key to last night’s 2-0 success over Parma.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sky, the 34-year-old said: “Last night we had a few problems in the first half but did a lot better after the break. We raised the tempo for twenty minutes and that’s when we clinched the result. These difficulties can happen at the start of the season. The first few games can spring surprises and hamper the most prestigious and strong sides.”
The goalkeeper, who missed last night’s Serie A opener due to a minor injury picked up in training, is already looking forward to the club returning to grace Europe’s greatest competition.
“We speak about the Champions League in the dressing room because after three years we finally have the opportunity to figure on the European scene. We’re aware that there are two or three teams that are stronger than us, but we can certainly hold our own against the others.”
Now in his eleventh season with Juventus, the Azzurri shot-stopper confirmed his desire to continue his career in the black and white stripes but insists there’s no rush as far as contract talks are concerned.
“I don’t envisage any problems. I’ve always had an honest and straightforward relationship with the president. I’ve always told the directors to think about other priorities, we’ll speak about it and find an agreement when the moment’s right. I’m in no hurry.”
