    He used to play in our youth system but we released him. He went to Gozzano and played in the first team when they went down to Serie D and caught Fiorentina's eye there.

    Is a missed opportunity? I'm not saying he would be where he is if he stayed. His path was maybe the best way forward for him. But Arsenal seem to have taken a liking to him. Is he really that good?

    I suppose so. But development isn't linear, it's a call they made when he was a teenager.

    Maybe more young players would do better playing in Serie D instead of being pampered in kids football. That's one reason why we have Next Gen.
