That's true we will lose our best center back... But how come we have 5 center beck and none of them is world class... we better sell three of them and buy a good one... Instead of keeping them on bench... Ferrari could be a good choice...

Chelsea to make profit selling Ivanovic
By Darren Lewis 5/07/2008

Chelsea are set to make a profit by selling flop defender Branislav Ivanovic to Juventus - even though he has never played for the Blues.

The 24-year-old Serbian international moved from Lokomotiv Moscow to Stamford Bridge after the Russian side accepted a £9million bid for him in January.

But he was unable to break into the side because of a lack of match fitness caused by the Russian league season being over when Chelsea signed him.

Chelsea beat off competition from the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Inter and Manchester United for Ivanovic's signature.

But he has been unable to dislodge either Ricardo Carvalho or John Terry - or even Alex - from the Chelsea first-team.

But Juventus boss and former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri believes he can persuade the Londoners to part with the defender and is willing to make a £12m bid - around £3m more than they paid for him.

Should Chelsea refuse then Ranieri will try and take the versatile stopper on loan.

Juventus faced a defensive crisis last term when £7m summer signing Jorge Andrade was ruled out for the season after just four games, while Domenico Criscito was not a good enough replacement.

I've watched 3 games for him with lokomotiv and 4 games for him in the european U-21 championship two years ago and i think he was the best defender in that tournament. In a club like juve am certain that he'll develop even more and be one of the best defenders in europe in 2-3 years time....
 That's exactly what I thought. On a consistent basis means watching him for at least half a season(maybe more to be honest, one great half season could be a false indication of someones true ability) in a row, and it helps if it was recently.

So we are suppose to be offering 12M pounds for a player who is unproven
Why not offer this kind of money to a proven defender like Zapata

I'd go for the loan of Andrade to Monaco in return we get our backup GK and sign Ivanovic on loan with rights to buy.

Ivanovic: I'm Better Than Carvalho

Chelsea outcast Branislav Ivanovic has darkened the mood at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season by proclaiming that he is a better defender than both Ricardo Carvalho and Alex.

The 24-year-old Serbian was rated as one of the best young defenders in Europe and he was outstanding during last summer’s Under-21 European Championships in Holland.

As a result he was wanted by a host of top clubs in Europe, including Juventus, Inter, Milan and Manchester United, but it was Chelsea who won the race to sign him from Lokomotiv Moscow for €13m in January of this year.

However since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Ivanovic has become something of a forgotten man and spent much of his first term at Chelsea mainly playing for the reserves.

Now, as speculation over a summer transfer to Juventus continues to intensify, he appears to have delivered a parting shot before he has even left.

"I am better than Alex and Ricardo Carvalho - I am in my prime and I want to play," Ivanovic said to The Sun.

"Chelsea paid £9million for me but nobody has told me so far why I did not make a debut for them.

"I am optimistic that the least Chelsea will do is loan me to Juventus."

If there was an option to buy, this would be a phenomenal move for Juventus. Too bad the source for this is Goal.com quoting The Sun. Gotta love when one completely unreliable source quotes another gossip rag... it's like that children's game 'broken telephone'. It would be fantastic... but it seems too good to be true. Still...
