Tertiary education is important not because you are educating yourself but because if you want to get a good job you need it because people hire you if you have a solid education.
In my case, I am doing Engineering so I need Tertiary education. If I were to just stick to being a pilot, I need not anymore education, however, if you want a job in the airline industry you need Tertiary education.
To fly a plane you need common sense but to get a good job you need education as well.
