I'm not much of a horror buff, but the original Frankenstein (Shelly) and Dracula (Stoker) novels are both worth a read. I'm also a big fan of Neil Gaiman's short stories in Smoke And Mirrors, most of which are in the horror/fantasy genre. One in particular I'm thinking of because you wanted stories from the villain's perspective - Snow, Glass, Apples is a retelling of Snow White from the perspective of the Queen as an isolated and terrified woman trying to fend off her monstrous step-daughter.

i've read stoker's dracula..as mikhail said, it worths reading..if you know to read, you 1 and a half class graduate peasant.

mikhail thank for the suggestion about neil gaiman. i like his projects and they guy has a great imagination will check out the book

Who here read The Satanic Verses by Rushdie? I've only read the first few pages and I have to admit it's a bit difficult, having to re-read some lines. Is the whole book like that?

No, but I've read one or two of his other books, and I didn't like him. (Don't even remember the titles lol.) Personally, I think he's a bit of a hack, because I didn't find all that much insight in his writing, instead he likes to be kinda sensational, which gets boring when you realize there isn't a lot more to it.

As for the Satanic Verses, I heard that the thing that made people all crazy is like a few pages out of the whole book or something, it's not even close to being the main story.

i read The Fellowship of the Ring & The Two Towers again:embarasse and also now i am reading The Rock of Tanios by Amin Maalouf..***..

Just came back from my second visit to the book fair, and i'll be going once more

and I got these books:

-100 years of soltitude, by gabriel marquez
-(an arabic study book about masonism)
-family happiness, by leo tolstoy
-frankenestein, by mary shelley
-dr jekyll and mr hyde, by robert louis stevenson

dr jekyll and mr hyde is a classic. one of my favorite books.

yeah i love it! read an arabic translation before, but i stopped doing that mostly, its best to read the thing in its original language
i wanna learn russian just to reread all dosteovsky's works, genius

I recommend you read the count of monte cristo. another one of my favorite books

Read it about 6 years ago.. it's wonderful!, but it was an arabic translation as well and i'm sure going to read the original version eventualy
i remember also at the same time i read the hunchback of notredam and loved it

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, great debut by David Wroblewski, completely amazed by his fluent telling, love it when i started to read, i didnt want to finish it, it's definitely worth for my sleepless 4 nightsint:

I'm continuing my affair with short stories, right know I'm stuck with O.Henry. A bit repetitive, but after reading his biography I understand a lot more (at least I'd like to think I do).

House of Night Series : Marked, actually i dont like vampire things and never find them cool, but insistence of my cousin i started the novel with prejudice but liked it indeed, cos' the excitement never ended and tempo wasnt down till the end

also now i am reading the second novel of the serie Betrayed..***..
