Finished 'A Dance of Dragons' tonight (book 5 of ASOIAF).

Just awful.

Plot movement was nearly at a standstill, what little there was proved predictable and pretty inconsequential.

I'm convinced the author is secretly a pedophile.

That sucks. I've finally started reading it this week. Don't worry, the 6th will be great when it comes out in 8 years time or so.

Yeah, honestly, looking back, the series has (had?) some great potential. But the last two books, to me, are an absolute write-off. Painfully dull with so little really happening.

I probably should have waited until the whole thing was written until reading. I don't like the idea of waiting several years just to get to the end of a story.

About the guy's creepiness...

No words necessary, but really? This Father Christmas impersonator spending time writing out scenarios of 12-year-olds sucking dick? Disgust.

Funny coincidence, so did I. And I was really really struggling to keep reading.
Really?

Maybe it's not for everyone then but I love the overarching themes. I took my time to go through it but definitely a pleasant read.

-edit. Speaking of Dostoyevsky, have you read The Idiot or Crime and Punishment? Those are pretty much fundamental reading to many but I've never actually gotten around to them. On my list.

I tried to read it once before, but I gave up cause it was so boring. I don't care about the annoying characters whatsoever and that just makes it dreary.

I tried it again now because I found this edition:

Yes. Also read The Gambler. Crime and punishment was incredible, but his other books didn't appeal to me much.

I read it in English. Perhaps in a few years, when I'm actually up for a reread, I'll try it in French... Then again, I've never been fond of reading novels in that language.

Cool. I'll order Crime and Punishment from Amazon tomorrow.

Crime and punishment is my favorite book of all times. You will enjoy it! Make sure you don't get lost in all the character names tho. Russians :D

last couple of months i read a lot of stuffs but two of them are most remarkable ones; Think of a Number by John Verdon, that was a very good thrill with very gloomy atmosphere and very good characters, i read in two sleepless nights and of course worth it!

the other one was Cast of Shadows by Kevin Guilfoile, very interesting stuff, sometimes guessable but it has a good end! movie material i think! ..***..
