Yeah, the first one, #4, was quite decent. Not as good, but respectable. The next two though..

It's quite sad that they want to try to keep the series going forever with a new author.
...and the guy's wrote what? Four or five of these near-univerally derided books. Talk about tapping a well dry.

Since you read them (all?), explain something to me, please.

During one plot summary, they mentioned Bourne on a cellphone or some such, and some other indicators that it's present-day stuff.

Shouldn't he be like 70-years-old now? How is he still out doing all this crazy shit?

Yeah, they basically made him older, he's 50 in the last of them I think. But still very fit for that age.

I wrote a review of these three books once:

He was already 50 or 51 in Ultimatum (and constantly complaining about his body failing him), though, which takes place in the late 80s.

So, did this new author somehow freeze his age? Or is he the fittest geriatric in modern history?

I think he's going the Donald Duck route. Age unspecified, forever the same. I haven't read the latest books but I take it that's what's going on otherwise how can he do it all.

Read through your reviews, by the way. Thanks for the laugh. Unsurprised about Marie. Typical hack writer move.
Any opinions about similar writers? I've read tons of Ludlum. I've also read Forsyth (good) and Follett (laaame). At the airport last night I picked up a Le Carré but only because the selection was so terrible and I wanted something in Danish. I don't expect much.

Can't say I have much experience with authors in a similar vein as I don't typically read this sort of "spy thriller" stuff. Having said that, I read/heard Le Carré has some great novels.

Oh man, the good old times asking Martin for IB advice. Has it really been that long?

And just something which will catch my attention...
Believe it or not, IB is basically to thank for my interest in books, it wasn't until then I really read something truly good past children's books which I never liked much.

You have these compilations of the best books, like this:

If you think my judgment might be sane you could also go to my profile here and sort by highest rated:

I thought it started well but it completely lost its momentum and by the time I was half way I gave it up. I came back to it a few weeks later and it was a chore for me as well.
I can't rightly say it had any momentum to begin with, lol...

Either way, I was looking at Amazon's top sellers for something that might be interesting and came across this 'Game of Thrones' book. I believe there's a television series based on it. The reviews seem great across the board, but I'm not really into the "medieval fantasy" genre.

Anyone have some input?

I'm not into fantasy stuff either but I read the first 4 of the series (A Song of Ice and Fire is the actual name) based on a recommendation and it's one of my favourite ever. Still waiting to get the 5th one.

The show is pretty good too.
