Riquelme's work rate is fine to me, but he doesnt have the defensive awareness that a midfielder needs to play at Juve, he will be playing like Zidane, except not on the skill level.

Juve would be foolish to sign him, Riquelme cant survive in a top team for 1 reason...his teamates...at top teams will have egos.

He needs a team build around him, players who will do the defensive work for him, and give him the ball straight away. But the guy has always and will always be a great player, but he'll unfortuantely for him, never make it at a top club.

Juventus And Lazio Ponder Oddo-Blasi Swap
7/21/2005 8:54:00 AM
The two clubs are discussing the possibility of a straight swap deal.
Juventus and Lazio are working to strike a deal for the player exchange of Manuele Blasi and Massimo Oddo. The Bianconeri are in fact looking for a right-back in a position which needs covering. On the other hand, the Biancocelesti need to find a substitute for Giannichedda who left the Roman club on a free transfer to join Juventus.

Oddo was in recent weeks close to a Milan move, but now the Old Lady looks like it has overtaken the Rossoneri. Blasi was rumoured to be joining Fiorentina on a loan deal, but Moggi and company would prefer to use him in this negotiation to lure the Lazio right-back to

One party trick doesn't make up for the lack of ability he has in other (more important areas) - which showed last season.

Oddo would be good back-up but nothing more. He is already 29(?),but he is a bit more adept at defending than Zebina.

Would have been so much better if Appiah was retained and Blasi sold... But hey...JUve wouldn't have got the same kind of money for Blasi.

Don't forget that Appiah's contract expired in 2006 and after another season on the bench he would have left for free, which is really bad for the finances. The only downside of selling Appiah is that our average age has become even higher (average is about 28/29 I think). The next two years we should start signing more young players. The average age doesn't have to be like 21, but a more healthy 26 would be nice.

If you imagine that we got viera for 20m, than should Appiah cost 2 m(in best case).. now we have got 8 m for him. :)
    Thank you Fenerbahce :D

A footballers peak is at 28, with of course the exception of Nedved. But if the average age stays so high we will have big problems some day, this can't work in the long term.
