Damn you should have taken pictures. Or just gone with them to see what they were gonna do :D
Unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me, I didn't even know I'd be going there until a classmate suggested we skip on lunch and go since he knew where they were staying. But the idea occured to me, though we wouldn't approach them cause of the guys who looked like bodyguards (dunno who they were). Just after that, we saw Zidane and Deschamps just outside the hotel taking a walk but by the time we got down to the lobby, there was Lippi, Mirkovic and Birindelli, Zidane and Deschamps had also come in.

Find out where all the celebrities stay when they go there, usually its the same hotel for everyone.
Also you could call the company or the offices of DC United and ask when the press conference is going to be and where. Most press confs are at the hotel the team is staying.

If I were you Id skip a day from work and go to the hotels, if you find the hotel the chance you'll meet any player is like 95%

    Good luck!
Oh, calling DC United is a good idea Fabi. Not sure if there would be a press conference at the hotel though; doesn't make much sense after a friendly.

    Thanks for the advice Fabi.

Hey thats a pretty cool story! did you talk to them?

The only famous footballer Ive ever seen in person is Hernan Crespo and I really regret not going up to him, asking for an autograph and then saying "forza Juve"

Yeah I did but not a real conversation. I was nervous and the only one who spoke English to us was Lippi. This was in 97/98 so a good while ago. I got autographs from all the players who were there, not everyone came down for lunch at the same time though, so no Pippo for instance. I think I still have them somewhere.

I had the chance to meet Cosmin Contra and Lucescu at some soccer clinic, however I didn't feel like going.

Press Conferences are usually a day before the event. I once snuck into a RHCP press conference. Its quite easy you just gotta be there early

True story: the first time I went to Italy in '95, quite a few people in Rome thought I was Alexi Lalas (or his brother). :)

I should have milked that situation, but didn't know enough how to leverage that for some interesting ideas for access back at the time. But then what would I do, try to hang out with Rudy Voeller??? :groan:

tell me you made this up :D
Ahhh... no. :D In fact, after a conversation with the guy who ran the front desk of the pensione I stayed at (near the Piazza della Repubblica...where all the transvestite hookers would hang out at night), after convincing him I wasn't related to the guy, he still called me "Alexi" for the rest of my stay as a joke. I ran into some of his friends, and they were like, "Are you that American defender in Verona?!"

Back in the mid 90s and I had pretty long hair, and after I took some courses for a summer at the Washington U in Seattle, I grew a ghoti as something of a joke on all Seattle-ites to look like a Starbucks employee. It grew out reddish, and I've actually liked and kept it ever since...

    [CORRECTION: Padova, not Verona.]
