Are you joking? No, I dont know Lev Yashin, I know he is a legendary Russian Goalkeeping hero from the 30s or 40s, but erm, I wasnt born, and I like to make my own opinions on players, not what people say about players, again with Zoff I wasnt born when he played, but again I've heard he was a great goalkeeper, as for Buffon, he is definitely No.1 in the world today, but better then Schmeichel? The man who led DENMARK to a European Championship? On there best forms, Schmeichel is better, he singled handedly made it so what when players we're "One on one with the goalkeeper" people expected the goalkeeper to get it...thats how good he was, if you never seen him, dont be disrespectful to say he wasnt great, cause it is stupid, he was as great as anyone I have ever seen...
so pele is not the best? you didn´t see him play......
yashin was better that peter. peter was great but not the best.

Yes, as far as I am concerned, I dont think Pele was the best, I never seen him play, so for me to say he is the best because other people think so, he may be the best ever play I dont know, but until I have seen him what is the point of me saying he was great?

For once I agree with you Nicole,Buffon is definitely nowhere near as good as Schmeichel.

fred, no wonder your Arsenal fan, but i'd ask you to refollow all juve matches when Zidane played with us alongside Dp...you can see that the Lights where only at Dp.....Think twice before you post.
well i have to say,it seems like a few people know that my whole family are juventus fans,i grew up watching juventus, and DP was my favourite player at that time, and juventus was the team i supported, but that was only because my whole family were juve-DP supporters and i was a kid at that time.so dont tell me to refollow juve matches.

Back to the topic:
i cant see how you can compare DP to ZZ just cuz DP was better at their juve days,ZZ has won everything a footballer can ever dream of,while DP is just a Beckham wannabe:cheesy:

Schmeichel is definitely one of the legends when it comes to keepers, something I hope Buffon will be one day

I'd agree that Schmeichel was the keeper of his generation: a truely awesome player. When he spread himself in a one-on-one, I used to feel sorry for the striker - I suspected it felt like the sun just went in. He was technically brilliant, but, more than that, he was astounding in his command of his box, and he could throw the ball further than some people can see it. I remember France - Denmark, in 2000, when he launched the ball 80 yards up the pitch to a winger, who set up a shot (goal?). A giant of a man, he'll be remembered among the greats.

As for the player of the 90s, it has to be Maldini. Baggio was fading, Del Piero an upstart, Zidane showed flashes of brilliance, but Paulo played the whole way through, among the best from start to finish. That said, Hagi would be a deserving winner too. One of my favourite CL memories is Hagi, old, hardly good for an hour of good football, but still the star of Galatasery, spending the whole match trying to chip poor Iker Cassilias. :)

I supposed that Mikhail is right, not many people could argue against Paolo Maldini, a legend, a true great in world football...

One of my best memories was the save against Inter, it was Zamorano in 1999, when he stopped his header from point blank range...There are so many it is impossible to name them all...

Freddy, this is about the best player in the 1990s,Zidane had only blossomed in the final two or three years of that decade and was essentially a nobody in Bordeaux before Juve snapped him up.

Maldini on the other hand plowed the whole ten years unchallenged as the greatest defender of our generation.Just like I'm sick of Serie A's defensive qualities overlooked all the time,we really should stop passing up on defenders just because they aren't as attractive as their attacking counterparts.

That said,Hagi and Stoichkov would be deserving winners as well.
