I cant remember who it was against, but in 1997 (I think) there was this save from Schmeichel which I still think is the best save ever, I dived sometimes like 2/3 of the goal to his right to keep out a shot that he tipped around the post, I think it was from Alan Shearer, it was insane...

Freddy, this is about the best player in the 1990s,Zidane had only blossomed in the final two or three years of that decade and was essentially a nobody in Bordeaux before Juve snapped him up.

Maldini on the other hand plowed the whole ten years unchallenged as the greatest defender of our generation.Just like I'm sick of Serie A's defensive qualities overlooked all the time,we really should stop passing up on defenders just because they aren't as attractive as their attacking counterparts.

That said,Hagi and Stoichkov would be deserving winners as well.
i dont think so it says the last decade, isnt that supposed to mean the past ten years?:wth:
if its about the 90's only, then i agree with you Maldini was the best but DP is not even close to being the best.

i just did.
yeah in the 1990's Maldini is defenitly the best player and IMO he deserved to win either Fifa's award or the ballon d'or,personally i dont why he never won it.

No, dominate means winning 8/13 times...try better Burke...nice to see you back through...I missed you!
8/13? That is 61.5 % of your games. Try better Nikki, get Sir Alexandra a new job. I can see the headlines right now, "Fabled Football Manager Retires to Open English-Style Neverland Ranch."

:wallbang: I mean 8/13 CHAMPIONSHIPS! Not games! As for our current run of form if you want to know, in the last 19 games, domestic games...15 wins/4 draws...

That's gonna take quite some effort on Buffon's part.

Schmeichel won countless titles and was three heads above any other goalkeeper on the planet at the time. IMO Buffon doesn't get quite as much glory as Schmeichel did during his career. Of course Gigi has a lot of time to cement himself up there with the best, but beating the Great Dane for status won't be a walk in St. James' Park
If Buffon can keep going like he has so far and not suffer a meltdown of some kind (Raul anyone?) then he will go one better than Schmeichel on account of how early he started. To be named among the best keepers in the world at age 20 is no mean feat, Toldo didn't even earn much recognition until he was 25. And that's what makes Buffon quite unique (there's Casillas but few others), if he keeps playing until he's 35, he will edge out Schmeichel in my book. But that's how hard Schmeichel is to "beat".
