So Roberto Carlos and Figo aren't that good?

primo, Del Piero certainly isn't one of the greatest free kick takers in the world today. There's no doubt Beckham has got more power than Del Piero.
Roberto Carlos and Figo are both excellent free kick takers but what I am trying to say,is that if Zizou was as good a free kick taker as you say he is,he would be Real's 1st choice free kick taker, and not 3rd.

    My Top 5 Free-kick Takers
    1. Assuncao (Real Betis)
    2. Van Hooijdonk (Feyenoord)
    3. Beckham (Man Utd)
    4. Del Piero (Juventus)
    5. Xavi (Barcelona)

Gotcha. I like your list of top free kick takers, but I would pick Roberto Carlos over Xavi (or Figo);). Alex, I for one still remember Sinisa Mijahlovic's free kicks, and at that time he was arguably the best in the business. Del Piero getting the rest of the votes in a Juve forum makes a lot of sense to me.

Anyways, lets keep the rational discourse flowing:

    Ballack or Aimar?

PS. my 4 mids: Becks, Aimar, Davids, Giggs

depends on what you want, an allround guy or an offensive specialist
Well, our initial argument with Zizou and Ballack was who is the better playmaker. Let this one be who is the better AM behind the two forwards (not necessarily a playmaker).

    best midfield

    giggs-zizou-vieira-beckham

maybe not all at the moment but if they play like thay are capable then they're the best

then is pires, davids, ballack (very near those four), maybe totti. you just cant name them all.

anyway, maybe those four i named in the beggining aren't tyhe best, but you'll never find a better right winger thean becks. with his crossing

who knows, they might be a relegation clause in his [Joe Cole's] contract :hoping:
There is. It's called his wages. No sane First Division club pays even their star player £3m/year. If West Ham go down, Cole leaves.

Aimar or Ballack....Well,imo Ballack is the more complete player and I would rather have him in my squad than have Aimar. But,as an AM behind 2 strikers,I would choose Aimar hands done.

Best Midfield (at the moment) :
    ----------------------------- Davids ----------------------------------
    -------- Beckham ------------------------------------ Pires ----------
    ---------------------------- Nedved ----------------------------------

But how about Frank de Boer and Steven Gerrard or Dietmar Hamman?

Nedved is one of the best for me at the moment. He's unstoppable, even in the Man U game even if we were defeated.

Don't know about De Boer, but Gerrard and Hamann are nothing special at Free Kicks. Ian Harte used to be almost as good as Beckham. Maybe if he recovers his confidence... :D

De Boer (Frank) is a great server of balls from the free kick and De Boer (Ronald) has been known to curl a few past the keeper in his time. Ian Harte, however used to be better than Beckham, man he was awesome.

I miss that Ian Harte. :frown: Ireland doesn't have any other good left-backs at the moment.

Ian Harte is a good player, love to see his ability in WC 2002 with Ireland NT :)
But in EPL, I think he should move to a better team like Arsenal or Chelsea, what a pity if he couldn't play in european competition next season.

Harte stank up the World Cup for us - he was substituted in every single game, and then missed a penalty against Spain. He's potentially a great left-back, but he seems to be a shadow of the player he was a couple of years ago, when he was linked with Inter. He was always a bit suspect defensively, but he got forward regularly, crossed really well, and was nearly perfect from the penalty spot. He was a hell of a free-kick taker too. He seems to have lost his nerve.

Maybe he does need a move, but I can't see a big team going for him now. Arsenal have Cole, who's as young, and probably a little bit better anyway. Liverpool have Riise, who's one of their best players. Chelsea have Le Saux and Babyaroo, both of whom are very good. Only Man U could do with a left back, as Silvestre is stalling on a contract (he's asking for too much), and he's not great anyway. I suspect they won't go for someone as off-form as Harte though. They look nearly certain to get Escude next summer, and he plays left back, so that is probably that.

I guess Everton could do with a left-back - they're about the biggest team who do. I doubt we'll see Harte in Europe next year. Still, there's always the year after.
