There are a lot of movies that have brilliant final scenes that leave you thinking about the movie even hours after you see it. Some leave you happy, others sad, some fill you with rage, some make you want to be in the movie yourself. My favorite movie endings:

In "the Gladiator" where Russell Crow's character Maximus fights off the evil Emperor Commodus in front of Rome's common at the Collosium. Maximus passes away in front of the crowd who he had "won" and his former lover, Commodus' sister, Lucilla.

In "the Sum of all Fears" the presidents of the US and Russia stop the outbreak of Nuclear war with each other because of the intervention of Jack Ryan. The CIA was able to find the terrorists who set the bomb off in the States, and secret agents carried out the elimination of those terrorists. With the beautiful overtures of Andrea Bocelli playing in the background, the agent sneaks into the Damascus house of the arms dealer, silently coming behind him and taking the life of the terrorist while the latter moves his hand to Bocelli's composition. Moments later under the same music, the unsuspecting Neo-Nazi in Vienna who orchestrated the attack on the US steps in his car, lighting a cigarette, setting off the bomb that was planted in his car. Just Bocelli's music in the background really gave the scenes extra life, and justice was served for the terrorists. Beautiful stuff. :touched:

The original Italian Job was an ad hoc ending (scripted on location) to a movie they didn't know how to end. IMO, it's one of the best endings of all time. All that stolen gold on one end of a bus pivoting on the edge of a cliff in the Alps above Turin ... with everyone else at the other end of the bus.

And speaking of better endings of original movies that were remade with the cheesy actors of today, the original Ocean's 11 had a great ending too. The slow recognition in each participant when the spoils of the heist unravel, and each Rat Packer sets off in their own direction, is classic.

More recently, I caught Internal Affairs on DVD... where in the original Hong Kong version, the fake cop gets away with everything. But in the crime-never-pays standards of the mainland China version, he's carted off in cuffs. Not quite "Soylent green is PEEEEEOPLE!", but it did the trick...

Warning SPOILERS!

The Godfather's (part 1) ending can be regarded as the definition of EPIC. Great technique incorporating the batism of the child in the church to the assasinations of the 5 heads of the families. Then in the final final scene, you see Michael blatently lying to his wife saying he didn't kill his brother in law. His line 'She's hysterical' is one of my favourites of the movie. Then the door shuts with Kay looking at him. Just shows how decietful the mafia really is.

The 25th hour had a great ending, which put a lot of meaning into appreciating life, and what you're life could have been.

Carlito's Way ending was masterful. Beginning and ending in the same scene. With Al Pacino dying and looking at the billboard of his 'paradise vacation' watching his wife dance alone in the sunset on the beach, with the song 'you are so beautiful to me' playing the background. that was a REAL tearjerker to me.

Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, had a really good ending. That movie is one of the best I have scene. Much better than it's counterpart, Snatch. I love how everthing comes together at the end and leaves the audience is complete suspense at the end. Good ending, leaving it up to the viewer. I normaly don't like the 'interpret your own way' style endings, but this one was class.

I agree with that. The look on Michael Caine's face is priceless. I also think that Kill Bill Vol. 1 has a pretty nice ending as well, with the fight scene between Lucy Liu and Uma Thurman. The hair flying through the air into the white snow is awesome.

At one time M. Night Shamalyan movies had great endings....everything came together: Sixth Sense and Signs take the cake.

Tarantino movies tie everything together (stories) in a brilliant way.

Lock, Stock is a good one too.

Fight Club is movie that did the opposite in my opinion: began great...and towards the end it lost it and went WAY over the top.

Indeed, M Night really had a nack for making great endings.

Does anybody know the name of that Bocelli song in Sum of all Fears? I think it's a pretty famous piece of his.

Yea, but not in the case of Usual Suspects. You never see it coming.

Btw Bryan Singer and Kevin Spacey will be working together for the first time after Usual Suspects, in Superman. :extatic:
