You consider that surprising? In a country where they have a 'religious police' (forget the exact name but I'm sure you know them), where women have very few rights (you are only allowed to drive motorcycles from this week) and that is in danger to be bombed by the UN?!

The only reason for it not to come in even lower is that the standard of living in Iran is on par with most other civilised countries.

As I said, many things are equally expensive, it all comes out to a person's preference on where to live in these expensive cities.

well,I think you are a bit wrong.of course I didn't say Tehran should rate higher.that was just very disappointing for me.
religious police...I don't know the exact name in English too but I know your meaning.actually this is the worst thing about living in Iran.
but women are allowed to drive.they also are allowed to vote(opposite the Arabic countries)who many of the ppl think we are one of them and with all respect for Arabic countries I hate it.there is exactly where that women don't have any rights.but they are all rich and then they are all SILENT.
anyway,I hate our government too.they didn't let ppl be free.most of their rules are against human rights.
here in Iran you can't find even a little of 'freedom of speech'.so Tehran isn't a good place to LIVE.but believe me,here is so nice to VISIT for one time.be sure about it.

The quotes that I highlighted covers most of my critisism. From what I've read (written by Iranians, before you ask) the country is basicly split into two. You have the 'old guard', the very conservative government and the religious police, and on the other side you have lots of young people who are as Western as it gets. From what I understand it's not allowed to go out on the street without a 'burqa' (don't know the exact English word, but this is mostly used here). And is it true that it actually got worse since the last elections?

It's all really hard for me to understand, coming from Holland - the country that has legal abortion, gay marriage, and partially legal prostitution and drugs. It's as different as it gets.

Our nation is probably the most non-religious in the world. Last time I checked a majority referred to themselves as "Atheist" when asked.

And I'm happy with that. Religion often becomes an excuse for governments to make illogical laws.

As I already posted it only got legal for women in Iran to drive motorcycles by last week. The reason for not allowing it was that the wind could cause 'the female curves to be exposed'. I assume, since she posted her picture on an internet forum, that our dear King Ale has a slightly different opinion about this then her government does.

Iranian women are allowed to drive cars, riding bicycles has been tolerated since the 1990's and women are also allowed to ride pillion on a motorbike.

Karach is not that bad of a city, it's definately better than lagos and dhaka (from what I've heard), it's ranked bad because its prone to terrorist attacks, but ask anyone in karach, it's not that bad, the media makes it look bad.

You have good knowledge of Iran, however, a "burqa" is not necessary. Covering the hair is enough (and most young girls barely cover it anyway, especially in Tehran ).
