Juve on Milan revenge mission
-------------------------------------------

Juventus have won the Berlusconi Trophy by beating Milan for the third time this summer, but Andrea Pirlo was stretchered off.

The Rossoneri are already without Paolo Maldini for a month and Pirlo was carried away with what appeared to be a sprained ankle.

The two clubs have now faced each other four times in three months, for the Champions’ League Final, Italian Super Cup Final, TIM Trophy and this 2-0 friendly victory.

Unfortunately for Marcello Lippi’s men, the one encounter they failed to win was for the European Cup.

This San Siro clash is played out every August and there is a curious superstition which suggests the losing side will go on to win the Scudetto that season.

The Rossoneri were without the injured Maldini, Rivaldo and Gennaro Gattuso, while Juve had Marcelo Zalayeta and Salvatore Fresi ruled out.

The fans were also entertained before kick-off, as new signing Kaka’ was in the stands following his £5.3m move from Sao Paolo.

It was announced the Brazilian creative midfielder passed a medical and will wear the Number 30 jersey.

Once again, rebel midfielder Edgar Davids was left on the bench in favour of new man Stephan Appiah.

Andriy Shevchenko had the first shot on goal within 90 seconds, causing serious problems to the Juve defence down the right flank, while Gianluigi Buffon tipped a Clarence Seedorf piledriver and another Shev effort over the bar.

But the deadlock was eventually broken just before half-time when Appiah’s fantastic threaded pass found Alessandro Del Piero in the box to drill past Dida.

The Juventus captain prepared a cool finish, but ex-Brescia star Appiah showed great vision to find him.

The Bianconeri doubled their lead in confident fashion with a well-worked team move.

Nedved and Trezeguet combined well down the left flank before cutting across for the unmarked Camoranesi to sweep home on the stroke of half-time.

Roque Junior, who replaced the injured Maldini in central defence, wasted a good opportunity at the dawn of the second half.

Ex-Lazio defender Giuseppe Pancaro then skimmed a searing angled shot past the far post.

There was more bad news for Milan, as Andrea Pirlo appeared to badly sprain his ankle following a challenge from Nicola Legrottaglie.

The midfielder was stretchered off in some evident pain and it is feared he will be out of action for several weeks.

Soon after, Massimo Ambrosini and Jon Dahl Tomasson got in each other’s way and missed an open goal, while Dida performed a tough save on substitute Marco Di Vaio.

In stoppage time Milan had their best chance when Seedorf's free kick thumped the woodwork.

However, overall the Scudetto holders looked decidedly more organised and at a more advanced level of fitness than the European Champions.

Milan 0-2 Juventus

so yes they are
