On 10 April 1977, the 24th championship game saw Juventus travel to Florence. The Bianconeri were called to fight in their run towards the ‘Scudetto’. They were leading the table but they were only one point in front of Torino, which played the almost relegated Catanzaro side at home. The fixture for Trapattoni’s men was more complex: at the end of the first halves, Toro were overcoming their opponents 2-1, whilst at the ‘Franchi’ the score was fixed on a goalless draw.

That situation would have allowed the Granata to reach Juve, but it lasted for three minutes. At the very beginning of the second half, Antonio Cabrini broke the deadlock: his cross towards Boninsegna turned into a soft shot which surprised Mattolini.

If good luck smiled on that goal, Juventus’ second was a real masterpiece form Benetti. Causio took a free kick from the right and Mattolini fisted clear the ball thus diverting it outside the box. But Romeo was exactly on the edge of the area and he kicked at full power towards the goal, thus netting with a sharp volley shot. This will be the most beautiful goal of the whole season, and one of the most important as well, because it allowed Juventus to clinch the victory - the final 3-1 result saw Bettega added on the scoresheet – which permitted them to confirm their position at the top of the table and continue their run towards the 17th title.
