Jeremy Irons on Batman V Superman

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, in which he played the loyal British butler Alfred. It was popular at the box office but got an absolute kicking from the critics.

'Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed…’

He lets those words hang in the air, then laughs at the thought of a film described by one critic as the most incoherent blockbuster in years.

'It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear.’
There’s no getting out of it now.

'I’m tied into The Batman at the minute [the next instalment, Justice League Part One, is due next year], which is nice because it’s a bit of income…’

    JUSTICE LEAGUE!!!

"Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions."

A whole bunch of Justice League info just got out.

More humor, more inclusive for younger audience.

When you want to write "more Marvel" but you can't.
If it's mainly comes from Flash it makes sense. Barry is super funny. If they had Hal Jordan Green Lantern it would been perfect too.they both true comedic bros.

Not at all. He will play a supporting character for Aquaman. I was expecting him to have a big role in the whole DCEU but Vulko is no such role. He is a great actor and a very "comic-booky" one so I think it's a big waste.
Again, how do you "know"? How can you predict his role in the plot simply by knowing what character he's playing? You don't know the script or the twists it might bring. The movie is 18 months away. Just chill the fuck out man.

Uhh because he plays a comic book role and everyone can read the character's story? I mean sure they can twist the whole universe and make Vulko some ancient demon lord who wants to destroy the universe and is the main evil guy for 4 movies. But chances for that are pretty slim and I don't think I would like that anyway. There's a bigger chance he will make a cameo in JL and be a bad guy in Aquaman and that's it.

Also I'm not sure who is less chill in this conversation :shifty:.

You still "know" nothing and I see you cribbing based on assumptions and expectations. It's frankly irritating to see someone like you inject negativity where it's unnecessary.

Man I honestly don't know what your problem is. A guy is set to play a role based on a comic book character. Like every comic book character this one has a known history. Based on said history it can be concluded that he won't be a big part of the whole DCCU if they keep it true to the comic books. I like Willem Dafoe and would like to see him play an important character in the DC lore, a character that is likely to cross from one movie to another. Therefore I voice my disappointment that such actor plays a relatively minor role in the universe.

What they do with the character is another thing and like you said they may change his importance but for now I assume he will be close to the comic books.

    As for irritating you:

DC/WB has to be careful. They clearly have to make their movies more inclusive, but at the same time they have to differentiate their stuff from Marvel. I'm sick of the Marvel formula personally, but their films do have a lot of success. However, I know a lot of people were disappointed with Age of Ultron because it felt like a rehash of the first Avengers film. And what did those movies have? A throw away villain and a bunch of minions, and Justice League looks like it could be going in the same direction with Steppenwolf and a bunch of parademons.

WB has to find a way to give their films a little bit more levity, but while making their movies feel different, which will be difficult. Flash for example is a far superior character to Quicksilver. Even most Marvel comic fans would probably attest to that, but Fox has already given people a great Quicksilver (who was more like Flash than Quicksilver in terms of powers, and he was funny, something Quicksilver isn't in the comics). So anything they do with Flash will be compared to Quicksilver. Likewise Batman is going to get compared with Ironman.

My problem is your know-it-all attitude and the automatic assumption that his role is not going to be important. Your attitude is contagiously negative and your reaction is completely overblown. You're acting as if Leo DiCaprio was cast as Jimmy Olsen or something. But the worst is the way you think. Instead of looking forward to what he may bring to the movie and hoping for the best, you're already making conclusions and setting yourself up for a "see? I told you so" moment. It's just terrible and therefore I'm voicing my disappointment at you.

PS: You seem dumber than the guy in the picture. Good day.

Indeed Sheik, completely uncalled for, what's going on? I know the comic book character assigned to Defoe, and it's indeed small time ally role (later adversary), mainly Atlantis specific academic /scientist and not JL cross over. Why is it negative or dumb to say it's a small role for an iconic character actor like Defoe? Bizzare to attack radekas for this.
