Why was it ignorant? Did not African American families stay intact, no fatherless homes? Did African American men not dress proper and speak proper and try to better themselves through education and work? There was poverty then was there not?

I honestly believe that we all want what's best for all peoples we just see the path differently. Some of us are about personal responsibility and individual drive while others are more collective, new deal style thinking

If anyone cares I had an interesting run in with two black guys a few minutes ago.

I was walking to my car at Lowes and cutting through the cars to the next isle I was carrying a 48 inch iron pipe I bought and walked too quickly and they were on the otherside of a van and didn't see me until I was literally right behind them.

"Shit how you gonna sneak up with a pipe that size behind a black guy like that. Ain't you watching the news niggas be on edge".

He was joking obviously but he was spooked

1) There were fatherless familes in the African American community back then, and a quite a higher frequency than whites. 2) The fashion of the day was to wear suits, so yeah people dress better. I cant comment on the speech patterns of Jim Crow era negros. Education, work? Are you serious? Black people couldnt vote back then, couldnt attend the same schools as whites, eat at the same restaurants as whites, walk on the same side of the street as whites and the in some communities the threat of lynching was very real. 3) Of course there was poverty, black communities were pushed to periphery of society and given second best.

Have you read up on MLK and how he taught them to self educate even if there schools weren't equal ? Or how they wanted to dress as clean and proper as to not distinguish themselves from everyone else? To speak proper and politely with manners to show you were above the perception of being less human? Shit even MalcomX spoke of these things! Do we choose to ignore ?

Well I never said that assistance shouldn't be there, but there comes appoint when self reliance needs to trump that and in to many of these communities self reliance is not self evident
