Liverpool won an incredible amount of points (far more than any top team in any league i believe) this year, and won the CL, winner should come from them. Ronaldo wasn't the best player in La Liga that year, wasn't the best player at the world cup and didn't register a single goal or assist in the Champions League semis+final vs Bayern+Liverpool. Ronaldo not winning the award was in no way "unjust".

I think it's pretty clear that Messi was the best player in both La Liga and the Champions League last season. So for that reason he should win the balon d'or; however, his Copa America was horrid so I can see why people would hold it against him.
