It'll be interesting to see what job Nagelsmann takes once he leaves the German national team. He's done a great job there. I have to think one of the big clubs in England will push hard for him. I could see Chelsea being a good fit if they hit on some of their young talents and develop a good foundation for him to work with.

Dont know what Spalletti thought starting Gatti over Politano.

What to say besides terrible first half great second. The stupidity of the second goal shows that mentaly the team are not champions, a lot to work on.

Happy for Kean. He looks so much better since he left. Like the player he was supposed to be with us. Clinical, hardworking, technical. He had a couple of movements in how he angled his body to feint defenders before going for goal telling of a top striker.

Spalletti needs to fix the defense. He has fixed the attack certainly, we don't struggle to score like inder Mancini. But we can't concede every other header or make stupid protests like last night. Gatti is too much worse than the first 3 defenders, Scalvini or Comuzzo need to come in.

Udogie is also a big drop in quality from Dimarco. Probably better to play Cambiaso on the left and Politano on the right rather than start Udogie in big matches.

At least Italy still have a relatively straightforward group to negotiate with the vastly overrated ugly fuckstick Hurland and his merry band of fishermen, the "victimized" desert cunts, Little Romania, and some Mini Ruskis.
I looked at the standings and calendar. Norway could be 6p ahead if they beat Israel this week. Italy hasnt even played a game yet and have to play catchup. First game is Norway in Oslo in June. Norway would already something to keep hold onto if they go to that game with 6p and Italy at 0 and it would become if not must win, must not lose games (Norway win, they have 9p). Also finishing 1st is a must now. Obv 2nd still gives a playoff spot but with recent history, Italy must win this group if they have real interest to play next World Cup. Cant they learn from their mistakes? Its one thing if they would be in the same group with a Spain or France. But now. No excuses at all.

But based on those German games. Still real issues with system and formations. I really dont even know myself now if play back 4 or back 3.
I guess you need back 3 for wingbacks without wingers. But i also think back 3 just doesnt work against every opponent every week. But sometimes i think what Italy needs is oldschool basic 4-4-2. Can Retegui and Kean form a good partnership? I didnt watch these games but i read even Kean went missing (particularly first half, so 45 minutes). Retegui went missing large part of the game when i watched last autumn games. But he has also grown since then as he is the league top scorer.
