that's a big problem for Italy. you cannot keep starting a guy who should do great based on club form when he's playing as bad as Immobile has for Italy.
on paper he's head and shoulders above the likes of Zaza, Balotelli, Belotti and others, but it doesn't do the team any good when he cannot perform on the pitch.

He shouldn't be head and shoulders over Belotti, but the Torino man has really suffered since that injury.
They aren't great strikers but they will score goals. The question is whether they have the mental strength to do it for the Nazionale, in pressure situations, out of form, etc. So far the answer looks like "no".

Yeah for sure, but tbh he bailed others out a lot of times during the game as well.
Slow midfield+ Bonucci and Rugani is always going to be an issue with quick ball and athletic players, but it is still just a friendly and Italy played only with the natural pride of the shirt, it looked more like they were fulfilling a fixture for England.
They aren't great strikers but they will score goals. The question is whether they have the mental strength to do it for the Nazionale, in pressure situations, out of form, etc. So far the answer looks like "no".

Conte would be good again, just based on what he managed at the Euro's with a depleted squad. My only thing is would he be willing to take over a rebuilding project, and if he would be willing to play the optimal formation to utilize the talent available. This is Italy's most talented group of natural wingers/wingbacks in a long time, and any formation that doesn't get the best out of them would be a real waste. There is no reason Italy couldn't make a deep run at the 2020 Euro's with the right coaching.
GK-DEF would be the least of my worries, there is a lot of depth, and quality available there. Verratti and Jorginho provide a strong base to build around in the MID as-well. If Pellegrini, Gagliardini, or Cristante can take that next step they would provide some much needed energy and grit alongside those two, there's also the likes of Barrella and Mandragora who should break through before the Euro's.
The biggest issue right now is striker.
The next coach really needs to integrate Balotelli back into the squad, there is no excuse at this point. He's been great for Nice, and has a good goal scoring record for Italy too.
Immobile can't replicate his Lazio form for Italy, I don't know if that's down to tactics, formations, or just mentality but its a glaring issue. Italy would have been up 3-0 on England if Immobile takes his chances in the first 25 mins, obviously I give him credit for getting into those positions but he's just been extremely wasteful. He missed numerous chances in the 2nd leg vs Sweden as well. It's just not acceptable at this level.
Needless to say, this is a huge decision and I'm praying they don't fuck it up.

if Mancini comes we will get Balotelli back on the team. Conte comes we will play 3/5/2 and be a scrappy team like in the last euro.

totally agreed. Not only vs England, we would have been up a few vs Argentina as well. The games for Argentina vs Italy and Spain were very similar, the difference is Spain is very deadly infront of goal and killed off all the chances they had that Argentina's scattered backline allowed them. While Immobile and Insigne wasted chance after chance in the first half and an open goal opportunity early in the 2nd. If we had a good attacking line this team could be a top contender in no time, but the key is getting that line. Where is it?? ?
