:agree: It's Marchisio's time to shine; he has been rather disappointing thus far. Rooney to get red carded for being an ugly balding fuck (notwithstanding his poor job of a hair transplant), and both Terry and Cashley Hole to be raped repeatedly by Balo and Cassano that they need crutches to walk off the field because of massively sore butt-holes. The Klingon to score an own goal, and Borini to make an impact.

Italy the much better team, even without Chiellini. Even though Italy are superiour, a lot will depend on what formation Prandelli will choose and i expect a close encounter that could go either way.

Marchisio has been very good so far, except versus Ireland, where he was clearly out of position(he was in the other games as well, but not as blatantly).

Buffon
Abate - Barzagli - Bonucci - Balzaretti
De Rossi - Pirlo - Marchisio
Motta
Cassano - Balotelli

With Chiellini gone, I don't advise the 3-5-2.
Agreed ... Like this

derossi..pirlo..Marchisio
...balotelli...cassano
.........DiNatale

We go with the Xmas tree formation.. Crowd the middle but give us strength and speed up front. Plus diNatale is used to playing as the lone striker. With Balo and cassano in support and pirlo feeding them this could be a good formation going forward.
We go with the Xmas tree formation
Terrible formations. The crowding of the midfield like this only limits italy's own play. They will only get in eachothers way, create nothing but confusion. Look at the Ireland and Russia games. Pirlo needs the width and receivers, Marchisio needs space to move.

Bench motta. Put Cassano in his place and start DiNatale
Cassano is a lazy fuck, and his laziness should be restricted to playing as a forward. Any 4-3-1-2 formation would also increase the chances of fucking Diamanti playing. And the below keeps Montolivo on the bench.

Buffon
Barzagli-De Rossi-Bonucci
Maggio-Thiago Motta-Pirlo-Marchisio-Balzaretti
Balotelli/Di Natale-Cassano

That is tempting. I have Balzaretti there because Glen Johnson is a terrible defender and should be attacked as often as possible, which is why Marchisio should play in that area as well, because he will get forward and make runs.

Edit: And if Prandelli seriously went in with the idea of using a 4-3-3 and didn't pick Pepe, then he is an idiot.

Salv

I agree with your lineup and formation, except I'd be tempted to start Nocerino over Motta. We could do with his runs from midfield and who knows, he might even score with one of his patented deflected shots. Like an (extremely) poor man's Lampard.

I also think this is time for Maggio to shine, he can cause Ca$hley massive problems.

Prandelli celebrates Euro 2012 progress with 21km pilgrimage
The national-team coach made a promise ahead of the European Championship to make the pilgrimage if his side qualified from the group stage, and has now kept to his word

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has completed a 21 kilometre walk to a monastery in the middle of the night following the Azzurri's progress to the knockout stages at Euro 2012.

The national team boss made a promise at the start of the tournament to the monks of the Camaldolese Priory that he would travel to the monastery on foot if his side qualified for the quarter-finals.

Prandelli was joined by members of his technical staff and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) vice-president Demetrio Albertini for the trip as they left Italy's base camp in Wieliczka during midnight hours on Tuesday.

The group arrived at the Camaldolese Priory after a three-and-a-half-hour walk, and received a warm welcome from the monks, before returning to the Turowka hotel by car at 07:15CET.

Italy will meet Group D winners England in the quarter-finals. The encounter takes place in Kiev on Sunday.

De Rossi: "You see Gerrard defending and attacking. I would like to be able to play more like that"

Diamanti: "A match like Italy-England I thought I'd only be playing on the playstation. Now it's great to actually be here."

Rio Ferdinand: "We will do the Italians #fact !"
