This is a good result for Italian football, had the team won tonight, nothing would've changed- a corrupt politician in charge of the federation, a senile fool in charge of the team and a third successive humiliation in the World Cup. Of course, there is no guarantee that this will change anything, but public opinion will be too strong for something not to happen.

I've watched most of the game, yet didn't see Italy try for something else than a straight ball towards the main strikers. The laws of physics and the fact Italy doesn't have phenomenons in their lineup were an easy tips they are not going to qualify. Basically the only chance Italy had was utilizing spaces between number 9's (preferably 1) and 10's (might be two or even more)... But they had neither the players, nor the mentality, frankly. Hats off to Sweden.

When one of us sees Giorgio desperately trying to cross the ball, we know it has been a poor night really. Positive overall - everyone will be focused towards CL. No excuses, no distractions!

Italy are better than Sweden, but I always had the impression that sooner or later this disaster was coming. Italy lack genuine quality, in the 90s and 2000s Italy were always a team which had arguably the best team on paper. There's been a dip in quality, many players did not live up to their potential.
Of course. They had so many good players back then and still failed. I think we should stop comparing. Every nation have seen a dip in quality. But teams like Germany, Spain and Brazil seem to have a plan. Italy haven’t for years. It’s all up to the coach. Italy’s youth teams are (ones again) looking pretty good. They’re not the best, but in the top. The Italian federation and Ventura had every chance to make a change, but they chickened out.

Truly i believe this is for the best, we can only ignore the elephant in the room that much.
Italy is and has been mediocre for quite some time.
Not every generation is as strong as others and this one simply was Kak.
We should not be elusive about it and going forward without being worthy would just kept business as usual and not allowing serious talks about restructuring.

Italy has always been one of the best teams in the world as long as i can remember.
Superb players, honored to be in the squad, with superior coaches and top tactics.
Juve was proud to have a large chunk of this car, even when the players we contributed were decisive for the greatest success, despite half of the nation wanted to take us down, by sacrificing the nation future...
Italy is still paying for the calciopoli, for wrongly bringing us down and tearing us part.
And we are still crucial at restructuring, should they let, should they allow more Juve coaches, more Juve players and less anti-juve feelings...
This generation (whatever that is?) aren't that bad. Some of the players in this team are, but thats just poor choices by a horrible coach

Conte proved even with mediocre players a good coach can get absolutely 100% out of a team and make them contenders

Ventura had a much much superior squad to control and couldn't score 1 goal in 180 minutes against a team that gave us free possession to do what we wanted

Are we really that surprised? really?

This team plays soooooooo predictable, teams can just sit back and soak up their lacklustre attacks over and over.

Ventura has to take a lot of the blame, But on a more "positive" note, I also really hope this can fire up the younger generations of talent to step it up in the future. There is indeed great talent in Italy, but sometimes things like this has to happen for them to really want to put their country back to their greatness.

Buffon, Barzagli, De Rossi, Chiello, Bonucci etc already was part of a golden generation, but this is now coming to its end. You cant live on those players forever.

Time to change approach.

Obviously "Ace" Ventura is gone. Looked a questionable appointment from the start, turned into an absolute farce for various reasons, but his ineptitude perpetuated the difficulties. Particularly loved the part where he brought on two wingers for two wing backs with Italy causing problems in wide areas for their most dangerous attacks. Then they started pumping the ball down the middle for tree defenders to head the ball away. That was a bit special. I don't think the team has any clue what the guy wants, but look at the random selection. He's just throwing any old shit out there.

The toad Tavecchio needs to do the honourable thing and step down but he's the kind of leech you get in Italy who worm their way into high positions and then they are stuck like a limpet. At least stop appointing duds as coach of your national team. Ventura turned into an orange late-career Sven-Goran Eriksson. He might be a good mid-table club coach given a couple of seasons. I saw nothing from a motivational or tactical aspect from most of his tenure to suggest there was anything positive from the choice the FIGC made.

The only over 30s who should be in the Nazionale after this debacle are Bonucci and Chiellini, and tbh their places should be evenly contested with other players. There is a good bunch of younger players and it's time they get blooded, the tournament was a final stop off point before that anyway. That they robbed Gigi of his final tournament and caps just adds to the disgrace.

BTW this isn't a generation of players, it's a mash up of the old generation, their subs, and some new guys. You can't tell me that someone brave and with ideas can't make something out of the group of U25 players Italy have to choose from. A lot of the forwards in and around the squad have been on fire this season. Insigne didn't even get a look in, lol.

Agreed, the team Conte brought to the Euros on paper was much, much weaker, w Sturaro and Giak starting in midfield.....this is 95% Venturas fault, not utilizing the players he had at his disposile in the right ways

Italy has had great looking youth teams for 15 years. Fast forward a few years though and David Lanzafame might as well be dead

And the rest of Italy will continue conspiring to vote in idiots like Tavecchio who appoint absolute terrorists like Ventura. The more you can do to be against Juve, the higher your chances of rising through the ranks of the FIGC, and the better your chance of absolutely crippling Italian football.

Everyone in Italy would rather own a bicycle than a Porsche, as long as their competitors have nothing. Raiola was right that in Italy they just try to bring you down to their level instead of rising up themselves.

How the fuck else can you explain this absolute degradation of a footballing country.
This sums it up perfectly
