Well I should have included Perrotta in the group with Iaquinta, pretty limited player who did very well for himself for a period of time. He's also from Manchester :D

You guys are ridiculous.

Insigne - Belotti - x
Marchisio - De Rossi - Veratti
x - Chiellini - Bonucci - x
Buffon

3 obvious weak points (as of now), big deal. That's A LOT better than most. Conte was one penalty away from beating Germany with fucking Giaccherini and Pelle, it's pretty obvious it's the tactics and not the talent.
Bernardeschi, Spinazzola and Zappacosta with that formation and we're fine. But our manager is inept.

I would like to see an Italian setup with Insigne, Verratti, Jorginho, Florenzi, Machisio, Bonucci, Bernardeschi and maybe Barella or some other technical CM. I think the Italian talent is a bit underrated because of what Ventura is doing. There are enough technical players that you could field a side that can hold the ball at least.

No doubt someone like Sarri would have enough at his disposal to make a team that holds the ball and scores I think.

It's just Ventura has completely lost the plot. Not even calling Jorginho and playing this football from the 80s.
:agree:

Everyone saying Bernardeschi, Spinazzola, etc. They've proven to be solid, but not that top level yet like the other players listed imo. Which is fine, because you can still form a cohesive unit and win. But my point is, everyone overreacting about the poor performances when a change in the coaching staff can turn that right around. Shame that Ventura's going to most likely fuck up Buffon's last tournament, he doesn't deserve that.

if ventura was manager of France he'd probably drop lacazette for some bench player from Reims just like he's picking a chievo player ahead of an inform zaza, hell even balotelli too and not giving Jorginho a call up is criminal right now and would still play 4-2- fucking 4 wherever he goes
or someone from Mexican league :baus:

the only way I can see Italy as a serious contender is if Marchisio and Florenzi get back to their previous levels this season, in that scenario I agree that they can at least put together a competitive 11, but if they're the way they're now the best they can hope for is a Cinderella story like Chelsea 12, Portugal 16 or Leicester 16

why would Italy need 4 CF's in the squad, Zaza or Balotelli are not needed if you have Bellotti and Immobile ahead of them

We need 3 CFs imo. You need to have an extra one just in case. Clearly the first 2 will be Belotti and Immobile. The last should be whoever is in best form from Balotelli, Zaza, Gabbiadini, etc. even Cutrone. From that lot I would pick Balotelli if he is on form. Immobile is better at everything than Zaza and they play similar styles. Gabbiadini and Balotelli play similarly as well but Balotelli is better when on form. Cutrone can be a wildcard, we'll see how he evolves. Sure looks good for his age.

I forgot about Emerson. Good call from the one who posted it. My first choice for LB as well, Spinazzola for when a WB is needed.

Florenzi came back looking really sharp for Roma. Expect him to start at RW against Napoli.

bellotti and immobile are incompatible as a partnership, zaza to say the least offers something different to the two of them

The only way this world cup won't be a disaster for Italy is if Tavecchio stops being a cunt, fires Ventura, and appoints Ancelotti.

With Ventura, a third straight group stage exist looks likely, which would be a disaster for Italy.

It really makes you wonder what Ventura has that they like cause its certainly not his footballing pedigree or the results he has achieved so far. He must be good friends with someone at the FIGC, owed a favor by someone at the FIGC or after having a maniac like Conte in charge they simply want a yes man who is easily controllable will never criticize the organization, and will never resign or do something unexpected.

This may be a very weak selection of players for him to work with buts its not that weak. They still shouldn't be struggling to beat Macedonia or Albania and anyone can tell Ventura is a dinosaur whose playing style only takes Italy backwards. If he hasn't adapted so far that its probably not going to happen

With Everyone fit, italy could field more than a decent tram. A pretty fresh one even.
Buffon
Darmian Bonucci Chiellini spinazzola
florenzi jorginho marchisio
verratti
belloti insigne

Buffon
Barza Bonucci chiellini
Florenzi Jorginho verratti spinazzola
Bernardeschi insigne
Bellotti

Or a varation on the above. But there are plenty of fresh options

a 3 man mid? with a trequartista? and no wingers?

Ventura has never heard of such ideas

It just doesn't make sense when people speak badly of this generation, there's so much potential with a fit squad. There just always seems to be something preventing its full potential.
there are lots of great players, but it's hard to complete a great team, because they have lots of quality in one position and considerably worse in another. for example in defense Italy has Rugani, Caldara, Romagnoli, Chiellini, Bonucci and Barza at CB, it's enough for 2-3 very good pairings, but they don't have even one pair of fullbacks of the same quality. In attack they have very good CF options like Belotti, Immobile and Zaza, but no natural SS to complement them - Insigne is an AW, El Sha and Eder are just not good enough. they can try to play without wingers and play Insigne, Berna and others as attacking midfielders behind a CF, but it again goes back to the fullback problem, I really doubt Spinazzola is ready to be the only one on that left flank in attack and defense. look at Juve this season, the RB position seems fragile and as soon as they smell fear our opponents target that flank nonstop
