it was clear to see from the start that ventura would be satisfied with a draw. he even said that he wont rush back verratti, since he is just slowly getting integrated after his injury. verratti is supposed to be playing the next game, because according to ventura that is a must win (while this seemed not to be).

That first half was spineless tbh. It shouldn't take going a goal down to create a response. The Italian mentality is a factor here as well, because at 0-0 Italy they (the players I mean) knew it wasn't a disaster to draw the game when they were clearly not playing well. It's hard to jolt a team out of that mindset, but the goal did it. What a shit goal to concede as well.

It's actually hilarious to think Italy could have possibly won that game, they contributed nothing for an hour, actually zero.

This generation won't win anything.
Plenty of very good or great generations for national teams never won anything. Being able to compete with top teams without looking like you were Ireland or Scotland is more a barometer right now. When the mentality is right Italy overcome any gaps.

Italy look mediocre right now, but they're already tough to beat. Add Marchisio, Verratti and an in form Balotelli to that team and they're actually not that bad at all.

Ideally both he and Eder would be sub options - target man to hoof to and energetic late sub respectively - but I can see why Ventura would stick with trusted, they did well enough in the Euros. Pellè is dumb because it's given Ventura an easy way to throw him away.

Immobile, Belotti, Balotelli, Gabbiadini, Sansone, Insigne, El Shaarawy, Zaza, Berardi, Pavoletti, Eder, Pellè. Those options point towards a 4-3-3, it's a dilemma considering the central defensive setup.

3-4-3 in attack and 5-2-3 in defense is possible.

Insigne - Immobile - Berardi
De Sciglio - Verratti - Marchisio - Florenzi
Chiellini - Bonucci - Barzagli
Buffon

Easily possible against the lower classed teams.

Nice to see Romagnoli have a good debut.
Himself and Rugani will be there to take over, once Barzagli and Chiellini retire from the National side.
