Verratti is nowhere near as good as Marchisio right now. Look at how exposed he leaves the back 3 to counterattack. He leaves way too much space in behind him.

Conte's set it up very poorly for this match. Why he would leave so much space for a counterattacking team to run at 3 CBs in numbers is beyond me. Verratti should be playing closer to the defenders if he wants to play this formation. It would limit the attack, but there's no way Italy would have conceded twice already.

Verratti should be playing closer to the defenders if he wants to play this formation. It would limit the attack, but there's no way Italy would have conceded twice already.

I've never watched Bulgaria play before. From watching this game, they appear to be a counterattacking team, with some decent pace in attack. But I really have no idea how they generally play.
